Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. My God! Can you imagine being up against her down the final 9. I think this result (her 2nd Top 10 this season) is huge. She has to be amongst the strongest mentally out there on tour. Looks stronger & to be hitting it further too. Ireland's next Major champ I reckon.

Brilliant performance. It'd be great to see her make a run at the Solheim cup team, would be a first for an Irish woman I think.

Looked that up recently, yeah it seems she would be the first. Even if it doesn't happen next time round, I'd say it's more a matter of when not if.

Quality performance. Trending really well. Great to see her name up there with some real titans in the women's game.

Leonas name has been mentioned as a potential Solheim Cup player, Sky Sports said a few weeks ago that The Solheim Cup captain has been watching her closely and as it seems she can't qualify through the European placings, a few good performances in the U.S will help her cause

Gonna be inside world top 100 when rankings are updated tomorrow, according to greg allen on rte, so looks like another milestone reached.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,865 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

One thing that could work in her favour is that there's seemingly not many European ladies in great form. Might be a chance to make hay over the next few weeks.

Great performance and result ,hopefully she will kick on and string together a run of results

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,970 ✭✭✭RoadRunner

Does she lose her balance a little some of the time after going after it with the woods? I notice near the end of the highlight reel above she does some funny thing with her feet. (Didn't seem to affect the shots in anyway mind!)

Yeah up 25 places to 93rd.

To put that into context for the Solheim Cup, I reckon 93rd in the world rankings makes her the 15th highest European.

She'll be much higher in a couple of weeks, she's only just got going now.

Hopefully, would be great to see her push on now. she has the form at the moment so a win is on the cards.

Lydia Ko is on ridiculous form at the moment, something like -40 for her last 100 holes,

Good interview with her on the Irish Golfer Podcast this week

4 birdies in her last five holes has propelled Leona to tied for the lead in the early stages of the opening round of the LA Open on the LPGA tour.

The pride of slieve Russell In Cavan is 3 under through 8 holes. The tournament which began today concludes this Saturday as the LPGA tour tries to accommodate players playing in the Asian swing starting in Singapore tomorrow week. As things stand Leona is not in the field for the hsbc women’s world championship next Thursday, but a big performance here may well change this.

Surprised to read that she missed the cut in the end, shame. Perhaps a bit of fatigue after last week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,032 ✭✭✭paulos53

The LPGA Matchplay starts tomorrow and Leona is drawn in a group with Jennifer Kupcho, Ally Ewing and Christina Kim

She has avoided the big name players so not a bad group to be in

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,032 ✭✭✭paulos53

4 up through 5 versus Jennifer Kupcho. A win would give her the only 100% record in the group after 2 games

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,424 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

She was 5up after 7 but is now 3up after 9.

Kupcho is a tough nut, if she wins this you'd have to fancy she makes the knockout stages.

    1up 2 to play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭tobsey

3 bogeys in her last 4. She started well but has slipped. Her opponent for tomorrow has outplayed her looking at the scorecard. Hopefully it's her bad day on the course for the week but she still holds on for the win

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 668 ✭✭✭mjsc1970

    Finished All Square

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,424 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

Her opponent parred every hole from the 8th to the 17th to win 5 of those holes and only lose 1. Leona will be disappointed I'd say that she couldn't have been steadier. 4up with 6 to play and finish all square...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,493 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Ewing in the final tonight...some turnaround from losing to Maguire. Unfortunate she couldn't have held on in round 2 or get the win day 3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,424 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

At least Maguire can say she was the only player to beat Ally Ewing last week :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭tobsey

She didn’t seem to play well looking at her cards. Especially the second day. Hopefully she has a better week this week at the US Open

Don't think she qualified for this week

I assumed she’d be in. That’s a shame if true.

She had to enter pre qualifying a few weeks ago and didn't qualify.

How is she not in this week? She's inside the top 100 in the world rankings and 18th on the LPGA money list this season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

I think it's top 75 only on the rankings and top 10 on the tour money list who get exemptions so she missed out on both, but not by much. The cut off point was 14 April and i believe she moved inside the top 10 on the Race to CME Globe list a week later so she appears to have been very unfortunate there. Missed out on play-off for a qualifying spot by a single shot too.

Leona the early leader at the 1st round of the LPGA Mediheal Championship in California. The pride of Slieve Russell is 4 under through 8 holes.

    Keep her lit!!

7 birdies in 10 holes, -6 early lead of 3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,887 ✭✭✭DuckSlice

She is flying it, 5 shots in the less with one hole to play.

    Par 5 to finish, a 4 would be a 63 on a tough course.

    Stephanie Meadow shot 80.

Finished with a 6, great round all the same. 9 birdies.

  • Registered Users Posts: 403 ✭✭Beaulieu

4 clear as well! Only time now before she records a W

Today is the important day i feel, if she can finish today with a 2 or even 3 shot lead then it sets her up nicely for the weekend. If she is caught today i think she will fade away over the weekend.

Is there any coverage of this on Sky?

Watched the full LPGA Official Round 1 highlights there now, just over 9 minutes, not one shot from Leona?

I dont know if that's just down to the nbc/golf channel coverage, they only showed the later starters so more likely they'll show a lot of Leona tonight I'd guess.

She got an amazing draw as well with Sei Young Kim and Lydia Ko in her 3 ball so lots of coverage tonight you'd imagine.

They dont have any coverage until after midnight i think but hopefully do show a fair bit of that group. I see the lead has now extended to 3 and she hasn't even teed up yet! Not all that many low scores around so shows how excellent that 65 was yesterday. Any score at all in the minus zone would be more than acceptable tonight.

Rough start, she bogeyed the first two to fall back to -5, currently second.

    3 bogeys to start :(

Finally a par on 4, playing a par five now, hopefully she gets a birdie here to settle things down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,966 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Birdie on 7, good par on 8. Looks like she's settled down now, par 5 coming up now.
It's on the golf channel if you have that channel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,966 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Birdied the ninth, tied top now. She's really settled into the round after the horror start. -2 for her last six holes. Hopefully she can keep it up and open up a nice lead.
