Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Well I actually spoke to recruitment yesterday and was given an update. There is still a delay for some administration wise. I was just curious if it was yesterday to see if it got fixed. Then again I’m going Navy we may hear at different times.

No but I spoke to them towards the end of the day and there were still delays so I’m updated on my situation. Was just curious to see if it got fixed

I always thought they did all offers at the same time in order to not give one service an advantage over the others.

I know one lad who got an offer there for the Army but it was in his spam folder for some reason.

Delay taking longer than expected I suppose so might be sending offers out with administration coming in. There might not be any candidates accepted to both branches so it wouldn’t make a difference in terms of advantage in that scenario

Did your email say what date your offer has to be accepted by?

Yeah it was the 1st, but apparently there's a big delay in sending out offers still so I'd guess it's changed from that!

    Anyone else heard yet?

When the medical takes place depends on the branch you are applying for as well like the Navy do their full medicals at the group assessment stage so they don’t have a second medical. First medical for army is bloods taken at interview and then if you pass interview you get a second medical date.

Perfect thank you! And how soon after your interview is the second medical?

Roughly 3 weeks from what I’ve heard. I’m going for navy and was all set but from people in the army process it was around that time

    Great thanks!

Is anyone else who did the army route able to provide specific detail? I heard it changes every few years.. last year they did all medicals after interview?

Fitness and assessment was the last week of June, Interview was the second week of July and the Medical was the last week of July. So all of it was done in a month. This obviously depends on the candidate.

The wait must be killing you!

No they said not to worry but it’s still killing me lol. I know I’m not the only one in this situation though which is a bit reassuring as in I’m not unique

Aww that’s fair enough. They told me I’ve to wait until the first round of offers are out before I will be contacted. The wait will be the death of me. Hopefully intake is a bit later this year.

Oh ok yeah I guess some first round offers are still delayed. There are certainly some people who may have had to pull out because of the wait especially amongst leaving cert applicants.

DF sure are taking their time

  • Registered Users Posts: 10 07Foresight

DF sure are taking their time

They sure are and for that reason so many recruits and potential cadets have left to find other things to do. It’s a shame that an organization of this magnitude still cannot handle the processes any faster, but I do give respect to the three gentlemen over at J1 who are doing an extraordinary job.

The next cadetship recruitment is subject to open up again somewhere early next year, but it’s also subject to get pushed depending on many different factors that, we are unable to play part in.

In the last three weeks or so, about thirty plus recruits have decided to drop out of their GSE competition and an additional ten out of the CS competition which is a tremendous loss at this very moment due to the current problem with experienced and non-experienced personnel leaving.

For this reason, the Defence Forces should in all honesty focus on getting the ball rolling unless they really want to be running on a skeleton crew at this rate.

I remember putting my application in, but it took an extremely long time to even hear back or get results delivered. However, it pays off in the long run.

I hope everyone here who’s really committed to serving the homeland hear back from, the Defence Forces soon enough as it’s an amazing experience for sure.

I’ve been waiting for over a month on the Cadetship reply and 3 months for General Service getting back to me.

Not recruitment the course itself, is there an indication when it will start?

Recruitment starts in April and induction starts in October.

We are officer cadets undergoing training in malta, cadets from previous years depart to ireland at the end of september. This year somehow we did not receive any news regarding the initiation of the cadetship in Ireland. Any indication of when it will start this year?

Yes Garda has been held up

I’d say you are probably getting in there have most definitely been drop outs but I guess their policy like you said is they can’t tell people on the waiting list until all first round offers are out in which there are still a few pending.

The class starts in October this year. This Cadet class is supposed to very big so organising it is taking some time. There are also vetting issues.

Have you talked to them recently? It’s been nearly 3 weeks since the first offers went out and over a month since the reserve list were contacted.

The waiting is killing me haha.

Yeah I did last week and actually know people have only gotten their offers this week so the offers are coming out as the admin is being completed for each person. I sent you a PM as well just as a bit of an update. Yeah haha the wait is killing me as well but it’s been quite a few people in this situation it seems hopefully it starts getting finished up soon.

I guess a benefit of the Cadet class starting so late is that you will have less time away from family and friends during phase 1.

There’s plenty of overseas options in the Defence Forces. Always found the RAF interesting though. My Grandad was in it back in the 60s up in Ballykelly. Not for me though

The Defence Forces better start induction as if they do not start doing that soon enough they won’t have anyone to train as the numbers are dropping
