Not remotely surprised. It's not raining at all as heavy as it was around 9pm but it's now just raining constantly. The usual places that are known to flood in cork city and around surely have to be in danger of flooding.

Unreal readings to the west of here across in Tipperary. We've had 0.4mm in South Laois since 10am this morning bringing the total to 6.4mm for the midnight to midnight run.

This table shows the rainfall totals so far for this October (1st-14th) for all of the reporting Met Éireann stations. Ordered by wettest to driest and includes percentages totals of the October average for each station:

Wet to very wet in most places and overall, and with an average national total of 73.5mm, it has proved to be wettest opening 2 weeks of October since 2008.

Other notably wet first halves of October include:
1976: 84.3mm
1990: 82.7mm
2008: 80.6mm
1983: 79.3mm
1977: 75.5mm

In contrast, 1991 was the driest for period with a total of just 9.4mm over the same period.

Was there a name for the system that caused spot flooding in Cork and on the M8? Seems to me that naming storms probably isn't all that useful here.

Escaped the flooding in this part of West Cork yesterday the ground surface even dried up before dark and with flooding 50k to the east and 50k to west.

I recorded 25.3mm of rain in Galway yesterday at my home station can anyone tell me was that accurate , that was from around 7am until yesterday evening

In great news for all who are sick of me complaining about the rain in athenry I no longer live there (will still be up around there a good bit though )

I have relocated to Sunny South Mayo

Most of my updates will be from there now
It’s a fairly elevated side exposed to w/sw
So the wind not the rain is now my enemy

S. Mayo is statistically duller, wetter, cooler, and as you say, windier than Athenry. :P

In south Laois we're at 46.1mm for October. (as of 10am this morning)
The year is at 633.6mm. (again, as of 10am this morning)
This is the manual recording figure.

Wettest months: March 123.7mm; September 113.2mm; August 88.5mm
Driest months: May 7.8mm; February 33mm; January 35mm.

The weather station in UCG recorded 27.6mm yesterday, while the Met station in Terryland, which is basically on the other side of the bridge from the college, recorded 26.1mm.

is for the Terryland station operated by Met Eireann. It should be quite good for calibrating with if you live in/around the city.

Its unreal the amount of rainfall since August. So glad I'm in the east couldnt cope with all the rain in west.

To think there were people on boards last year panicking about the drought + freaking out that yearly rainfall totals would drop dramatically in Ireland.

I hope they are reading this thread!

The reason some people were panicking as you say yourself is because their livelihoods depended on it,grass wasn't growing cuz of the drought and it was costing big money to fodder cattle,I don't remember anyone looking for lots of rain,just enough to get grass growing

Going for a very early winter End of October. Models now showing up something of a potent cold blast . It has happened before October 2003 springs to mind.

Was out for a run on the old N11 around Jack Whites when that cell came over the hills to the west- biblical rain and wind really picked up as it approached. was a tad damp afterwards!
