Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Woman goes blind eye tattoo

A woman has been left completely blind in one eye and rapidly failing sight in the other after a tattoo artist botched an attempt to dye her eyeballs black.

Aleksandra Sadowska from the city of Wroclaw in the west of Poland had gone to the tattooist after deciding she wanted to emulate a rap artist called Popek, who also had the whites of his eyes dyed black.

The bungled procedure left the 25-year-old model complaining of pains in her eyes which the tattooist is reported to have told her was normal and she should take painkillers.

Based in the Polish capital Warsaw, the tattoo artist named in local media as Piotr A is facing three years in prison for unintentionally severely disabling the woman.

Two fecking idiots, her for undergoing this procedure and the tattooist for carrying out the procedure.

Were they breaking new ground or is this a thing?

Edit - sorry, read the article, it does appear to be a thing.

Nope, Darwin Award is only for those stupid enough to successfully kill themselves. Lesser idiots who only manage to blind themselves are not eligible.

25 now, so just 21 when she had it done. Blindness is too high a price to pay for naivety. Proper order that the fella responsible is charged.

Reminds me of a young lad I saw the last time I was in McDonalds. He was maybe early 20s.

He was an employee, and obviously had had one of those big rings inserted into his earlobe.

However, the ring was gone, not sure if he took it out or wasn't allowed to wear it at work, but his earlobe was hideous to look at. It was hanging down all droppy and it looked like his lobe had been shot.

What are some people thinking? He'll probably need constructive surgery to get his ear anyway half normal looking again.

I'm sorry but someone who is stupid enough to want someone else to stick a tattoo needle into her eye ball in order to dye it black deserves what ever else comes along with that stupidity and in this instance its blindness. The tattoo artist is somewhat to blame for doing it but she made the decision to do it and went along and paid for it to be done so therefore she is 95% to blame for it.

If she wanted black eyes she could've just walked up to some fat bird and insulted her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,707 ✭✭✭Feisar

For some strange reason I have a certain level of sympathy for this person.

What she did was dumb but she has not impinged on my life. It's easy to say she got what she deserved and move on however next month she'll be blind and the year year after that and for decades to come.

However the inability to remove ones belt in the airport or take ones liquids/laptop out of ones bag is also dumb. These people carry out they wanton acts of stupidity with impunity. My rage is only equaled by my impotence as I attempt to navigate the porridge of ignorance that is humanity.

I hate airports by the way!

That's actually quite easy to fix. Minor and simple surgery. Still quite stupid, but nothing compared to what this stupid woman has done.

If she lives a nornal lifespan that's about 60 years of being blind ahead of her, a high price to pay for a fad that will be something else in a few years.

All McDonalds employees should have these. It comes in handy for carrying around drinks.

    Poor girl.

We've all made ridiculous decisions while young. We're just lucky we didn't go blind from them.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,736 ✭✭✭Irish Guitarist

Many years ago I saw a sign in a hairdressers saying they were doing ear and nose piercings. I went in to get my nose pierced and the girl tried to do it with a ear piercing gun and an ear stud. It wouldn't go through my nose and I ended up walking out with blood dripping from where it had went halfway through. Thinking back I was lucky. An earring is far too long to pierce a nose with and it might have done worse damage if it had went through. Fortunately I've never felt the urge to fuck with my eyes.

Come on. She's 25, a grown adult, not a child, who should know better.
Even a quick Google of "eyeball tattooing" is enough to put most sensible people off.

Even if there wasn't any problems, it's irreversible. Who wants to spend the rest of their days looking freakish with black flipping eyeballs?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,170 Mod ✭✭✭✭Wibbs

Ah I dunno WG, from what I gather she was 21 when she had it done? I'm not the most sensible now, but at 21 I was as daft as a brush. What saved me from real danger was a healthy risk aversion and fear of pain. And things you'd consider at 21, you'd not go near at 31. Plus when you consider the average IQ is 100, there's a fair chunk of people where their lift doesn't go quite to the hundredth floor and takes its sweet time travelling to the floors beneath.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,707 ✭✭✭Bobblehats

What might the chances be that injecting black ink into your eyeballs might result in you seeing black?! A scary enough prospect, surely now she can see that much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,526 ✭✭✭✭whisky_galore

    21, 25, whichever, in her 20s.

She will have a hell of a long time to sit down and think about what she's done.
