Puppy farms

Rang an advertisement on done deal last night, seller sounded very cagey, no real chat, didn't sound like a dog lover, last puppy left even though the ad was only up 5 minutes. Gave a different first, name (and sex) than the ad, said I'd come over later in the week, wouldn't give address. I came off phone and Googled dog, county and name and it is a notorious puppy farmer.

Are these guys all gangsters? Do they have to disclose it's a puppy farm? Could the puppy grow to not be the breed disclosed? Should they be avoided at all costs?

Avoid them. You give them money, it will encourage them to keep going.

Why would anybody risk you coming to their house and infecting them
Why would they risk giving you one of their pups when you could get sick
Why don't they have a waiting list for their puppies

... The answer to all of these questions is money and is why you should avoid them! I bet the puppy farmers are kicking themselves with the amount of people looking for pups now.

What aspect of vital travel outside of 2km from your home was going to buy a dog going to fall under? Interested to hear this.

I'd be interested to hear what part of my question relates to coronavirus

what kind of dog out of interest? Shocked at the huge prices of some -many- dogs online at the moment -when did a puppy start costing e1,000+ madness

Cockapoo and goldendoodles, same seller but different name and numbers on done deal, youve probably seen the same ads, 've held off for 2 years looking for new dog so have never really looked at the prices so we're not sure what the price is - there were f2 labradoodles on gumtree for £900

Cockapoo and Golden doodle are not breeds, they are fancy names for mongrel. F2 is a fancy term for brothers and sisters inbred together. The going rate for a designer crossbreed is a small donation to a rescue centre. I would advise waiting for the rescues to reopen when this is over. There are no reputable breeders of designer cross breeds in this country.

I have a feeling there will be no shortage of rescues when people go back to work and ditch the dog they bought to entertain them for the duration. Same for other animals. Apparently poultry sellers were busy with people looking for an egg machine when the panic buying was in full swing.

Can I go one step further and suggest you report them? There was new legislation introduced this year about the sale of dogs and pups and if this ad was in breach of that (it sounds like it likely was), it might be enough to get the puppy farm acted on. They are horrible places. Thanks for not giving them your money.

Oh somebody locally here posted asking of anyone had a spare heat lap and chicken wire to build a coop... their friend is a teacher and took 20 eggs home from school thinking they'd be back in two weeks and is now due 20 chicks so they agreed to take some :pac::pac::pac:

I agree about the rescues - some people will buy anyways from online/crappy sources and use the fact that rescues quite rightly closed as justification. My puppy plans are on hold anyways as no reputable breeder will have pups :( I also have a specific list of stuff I want to do for socialisation (ie everything Bailey is afraid of and more lol) which just isn't possible right now.

Did you see Denise Fenzi just got a pup? I'm super-interested to see her socialisation while she's under the COVID restrictions (genuinely - I think it'll be great and really interesting).

I did and I thought the same. I’m undecided what I think of her tbh. :p I’ve only done injury related courses on Fenzi!

Ads were down as of this morning

Ah, I don't want to get into the pros and cons of different trainers, that way madness lies. She's certainly vastly more experienced than I'll ever be and it'll be interesting to see what she does.

:D Ah yeah I agree on the trainers/methods - not your lack of experience lol :pac:

I can't wait for all of this to be over and have a new pup. I've a name picked :pac: and my plan which will KILL ME!!! :D is to say nothing to my friend (she's not on boards lol), I'll drive up to her saying have choc or something and have her come out.... and BOOM - puppy will be in the car :pac::pac::pac: .. She'll cry lol :o

When it comes to pointing out that something is in breach of the rules its helpful to point out which rules exactly.
    https://www.agriculture.gov.ie/animalhealthwelfare/salesupplyandadvertisingofpets/

The requirement for breeders to put their number on the ad is probably the main infringement you'll see as it is automatically identifying them as a 'puppy farm' in some peoples minds even though they are complying with the rules.

I was frankly quite surprised when one otherwise sensible set of suggestions on how to get through these sh1te times was "get a pet".

So when everything returns to normal, what becomes of the pet?

Imho puppy farms should be rooted out and closed down. Go find another less odious cottage industry to run.

F2, I've never hear of that term. Pure shocking.

I can't believe people are getting pooches to occupy themselves at this crazy time. Poor rescues are suffering enough without the possible surge of unwanted pets when the current sh1tshow is over.:(

By the way, this comment isn't aimed at you op.

No bother, for what its worth our decision to get a pup took 2 years, as I am now working from home and cant ever see me going back to an office after this, myself or wife will be at home every day, so cant see a better time to raise a puppy

    Avoid at all cost.

Report to your local county council if the seller is local. Can't talk for all of them but the one my wife works for as a dog warden are always checking up on these and trying to bring prosecutions where possible if they are in breach of the regulations.

Done deal and FB are full of scumbag breeders. If you are looking for a particular breed of dog contact the Kennel club for a list of responsible breeders.

I'm in the same boat as you. Mine will take a little time though. We lost our beautiful boy last week to that fcuker cancer. Absolutely heartbroken, but we will get a new little friend. However - we will look for a proper breeder and do it the right way. Reckon it will be the NY before we do anything though.
