Well two are male ,the other is Tomasz Schafernaker. The other two actually do weather in something like proper old school style - Philip Avery and Rob McElwee. So we will still have all the annoying screeching women standing in front of Ireland which is hidden by their pregnancy. :p

that was pretty funny but packing him for it is taking it a bit far. . .

does seem a bit harsh for joking around, but if your on live tv and stick up your finger at a co-worker it can't really get much worse

    Rob McElwee:(

Why oh why are they axing him!?. He knows his stuff, is enthusiastic, and communicates complex stuff in an informal and engaging style.

A silly move by the BBC:mad:

Can't believe they got rid of McElwee.. always liked his wit. They could have dropped some of the less well known in lieu of him. Is there any info as to why they axed some presenters.. cost measures or what?

'All BBC weather presenters were re-interviewed for their broadcast roles in recent weeks as part of a streamlining of the service. But the three stars were told by management they would no longer be allowed on air after failing to impress with their 'team leadership' skills.'

Hmmm! You'd have thought that the ability to prepare and deliver an accurate and professional forecast would have been a more relevant criteria than leadership skills

    Rest of story here

Totally agree. This meaningless HR bull**** speak really churns my stomach. Sad that the BBC let go these 3 fine forecasters. Guess now that Britain has gone all conservative politically lately, it wouldn't do to have anyone with the faintest hint of a personality presenting the weather.

Er its about getting white men off the screen noting to do with Tory values, the BBC is so up its arse on Political Correct thinking women are being given a greater presence simply by geting rid of male presenters one by one.

Sky News got rid of the one man they had left and arguably their greatest asset,Francis Wilson. Not just a weather reader he was someone who was genuinely excited by the weather and you could see it visually in his forecasts.

Now most of the weather is being read by newsreaders.:(

The boss probably got the same when he told Tomasz the bad news :p

Nah not David Icke but there is a clear process under way at the BBC to favour female presenters over males. Its been ongoing for 5+ years, Top Gear will be hosted by three (ugly!) lesbians before we know it :p

Homophobic commentary in the Weather forum - never thought I would see that.

Schafernaker was voted best TV weather presenter at some populist awards ceremony earlier in the year, so he obviously got the boot for his gaffes (of which the finger was only one). I was actually surprised he wasn't lined up for Strictly Come Dancing this year - guess he can defect to ITV for their ice dancing version now.

This didn't seem to do Cat Deeley any harm!

Tomaz and Rob are their 2 best on air forecasters.
WTF are the beeb playing at ?

Tomaz's countryfile snow forecast, the first sunday in january was simply a classic.
Rob is renouned for his love of exciting weather.
Both have a tremendous ability to explain weather in their broadcasts.

What we're left with are some good ones but mainly the bland script reading types

Calling part of the country "nowheresville" probably didnt help him much. The perception was that only London matters.

    Yes.
Rob seemed to be a man after my own heart with his love for snow. You could see the joy in his face at times last winter. I just don't understand how
they (the BBC) think it's a good idea to replace him and tomasz, who have great knowledge, and most importantly the skill to impart it, to those that don't, in a way that's engaging, and, like you say, replace them with people who are stuffy and bland.

After writing to the BBC they have got back to me with the following :

[FONT=Tahoma, Verdana, Arial]Thank you for your comments.

The BBC weather presenters are professional forecasters employed by the Met Office and based at the BBC. Following a competitive tender process, the BBC recently awarded a new contract to the Met Office for the supply of weather services. As part of its new contract the Met Office has made a few changes to the on-air forecasting team to ensure it could maintain high standards of consistency and accuracy. Familiar faces will continue to provide up-to-date weather forecasts and analysis for our audiences.

Thanks again for taking the time to contact us.
