Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Calculation factor for mortar in walls

    I'm looking at building a wall that will be 4500 - 5000 of 440X215X100 blocks. Is there a calculation you can make to determine the amount of mortar; from that I can work the amount of sand and cement.

    Eg (5000 of those blocks) X (Factor) = Ym3 of mortar needed.

    Is there any factor for the amount of brickforce needed?

    Out of boredem I reckon each 100mm block laid on edge uses about 0.000666m³ while on the flat uses about 0.0013 m³.
    (Standing edge + horizontal edge)x width of bed x height of bed = volume of mortar per block
    So say 5000 blocks on the flat x 0.0013 = 6.5m³ of mortar
    6.5 x rule of thumb figure of 1.6 to determine weight of sand =10.5 ton of sand.
    Approx 20 good standard mixer mixes to the m³.
    So 6.5 x 20 = 130 mixes
    Strong mix of half bag to the mix = 65 bags of cement
    Mightened be an exact science but wouldn't be too far out.
