Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I am looking to fill a room for our schools forthcoming summer fair. I have been given a class room to have a craft room in.

What I am looking for is people who may want to sell their crafts or simply to demo or display them. What I am not however looking for are card makers (sorry!)

So it may suit - Jewelery, Glassmakers, Quilters, or anything really.

    Date - Sunday 21st June - time 12.30 to 4.30 - location - Castleknock.

There would be no charge for the stall , a donation would be most welcome but that would be at your discretion.

Just to let folks know the Electric Picnic is going to have a Greencrafts section again this year. It's going to be in the Global Green area, and larger than last year. Lots of workshops on all kinds of crafts, and a sculpture trail. I'll be there, doing Eco/Re-cycled textile workshops. Cheap and cheerful!
If you dont want to do a workshop, I'll have a Sit and Stitch area, where you can just come and well, sit and stitch...

I saw a girl who did that course on a 'Nationwide' a few weeks ago and she's doing well now. Can't remember who she was but her stuff looked great.

Best of luck with your application. I'd say it's a very enjoyable course.

I've always wanted to learn the skill of wood carving. Having done a few google searches I came across the below website.

Wood Carving Video Lessons By Master Craftsman Yoram Drori

the lessons are really easy to follow. You dont need very much equipment (just a knife, a straight edge and some wood) and you can follow at your own pace.

They've done a really good job at putting the blog together and I recommend checking it out if you are interested in learning the craft of wood carving.

This is my first post on boards.ie. ..Hurray!

    Opening October 15 at 6.30pm - November 26

The Irish Museum of Contemporary Art wishes to invite you to the opening of their exciting new show Échantillons: A Selection of French Contemporary Art. The premier of this event provides a sampling of the artists and contemporary art practices in France today. The timing of such a show in Ireland is auspicious as it encourages and invites reflection on what is gained from our ever-increasing global interaction and interdependence. The exhibitions, installations and performances are all uniquely reflective of the curators, artists and teams responsible for creating them; however, at the same time their involvement and participation in an event such as this also clearly illustrates that the shared drive and passion of emerging arts practitioners transcends cultures and borders.

If you are into textiles, freeform, Fibre Art, crochet, any kind of science/mathematics, enviromental, community, projects.... then you have to check out this workshop.
"Margaret Wertheim of the Institute For Figuring in Los Angeles, will be doing a workshop in The Science Gallery on the techniques of hyperbolic crochet and talk about getting an Irish Crocheted Coral Reef together in Spring 2010."

OK, this sounds crazy, but even if you can only crochet a little, come along. The maths behind it is amazing, the crochet looks difficult but it's easy. The workshop is free, but booking is essential as places are limited. Simply go onto the Science Gallery website, click on GET TICKETS.

    could this be....

The Republic of Ireland's first Face Painting Jam!

    Date: Sunday 29th November
    time:
Venue: Menlo Park Hotel, Galway City
Cost: €10, to cover room hire and teas/coffees. This is a non-profit event.

    Calling all Face Painters!
I'm hosting a 1 day face painting "jam" session at the Menlo Park Hotel, for beginners, 'hobby' painters, and professional face painters alike! Every one of every level is most welcome.
Bring your kit (if you have one) to work with, you will definitely be encouraged to get painting! I have a small number of kits available to borrow/share if you don't have your own...

Starting at 10am, (although you can drop in/out at any time over the course of the day!), The morning will be given over to setting up your kits, meeting fellow face painters, networking, sharing tips and advice, and 'poking around' in each others kits - with permission, of course! - to see what products people are using / how they're using them.
It's hard to try before you buy in Ireland, and so I'm hoping this will give you an opportunity to look at other brands and colours of paints/glitters that are available.

From around 11.30 / 12, there will various face painting demonstrations - this is your chance to pick up new designs for the Christmas season - I will be concentrating on Quick Christmas designs - to try out variations on old favourites, and maybe jazz up your face painting repetoire...

At 2.30/3pm, there will be an informal face painting competition! (complete with prizes!) The theme is "Christmas", so get thinking of original, bright ideas! (Hint: you could look at xmas cards for inspiration)

Everyone is welcome, this will be a friendly, informal "jam" and a great chance to improve your face painting skills in a no-pressure environment! And if you feel like you have skills to share, even better! Let's make this work!

There is a fantastic art teacher in the carrickmines area dublin 18. I found her name in www.fundays.ie . She runs Clayworks, but also does portfolio and Junior and Senior Art classes at weekends. I attnded one of the Adult courses and I can honestly say she is without doubt one of the best art teachers I have ever had. She has links with IMMA and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Artist Panel. If you want to give a gift for life, its worth attending her classes.
