    Hi,

    I am putting together a pc from some parts that I already have and some I need to by. I will mostly use this pc for CAD, PremierPro - video editing and gaming.

    Can you please give me advice should I change anything on my buy list as the budget is tight?

    The parts I have now:

    Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LE PLUS
    CPU: Intel I5-3330 with OEM cooler
    RAM: DDR3 Corsair 1600 CL9 - 4GB
    GPU: AMD Radeon r9 390 8gb gaming
    PSU: Cooler Master ACAB-D3 - 600W
    SSD: Samsung EVO 750 - 500GB
    HDD1: 2No. of 3.5" Western Digital Caviar Green - 2TB
    HDD2: 1No. of 3.5" Western Digital Caviar Green - 1TB

    What I'm planing to buy:

    Case: Aerocool Glo PC Gaming Case - Amazon 49GBP or Cooler Master masterbox K500L - Used - cca 25€
    CPU: Intel I7-3770K - cca 100€ used
    Cooler: Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 - 80GBP

    Forget the be quiet dark rock 4.

    Buy a Ryzen 6-core or 8-core & new motherboard + DDR4 RAM.

    Why? I am planing to clock this CPU to 4.4 and Be quiet dark rock 4 pr has a nice reviews. I also need it to be quiet for recording.

    Well the value of those second hand parts is not good. €100 for an old i7 and €100 for 16gb of old DDR3 is kinda pissing money up the wall. Then slapping a €100 cooler on there.

    For the same €300 you could get this and just sell the old parts.

    Totally agree.

    If you really want to go on with the i7-3770 plan, get one from somewhere the prices are more reasonable. EG, 2nd hand on Adverts, you should get a 3770 for €70 and 16GB DDR3 for about €50. Then slap a decent €30 cooler on it if you must.

    That's €150 v €300 which is a big difference and a bit more understandable.

    You know it would make more sense to just sell what you have now and start with a fresh build. The R9 390 at this stage is a total power guzzler and furnace for fairly basic performance.

    You guys are absolutely right. I have just change my specs and for the less money I can get something better and newer.
    I will sell my motherboard + I5-3330 + 4GB of RAM somewhere around 120 - 150€ and then add another 200 and get next parts:

    - Motherboard: ASRock B450M PRO4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard
    - CPU:AMD Ryzen 5 2600X 3.6 GHz 6-Core OEM/Tray Processor
    - Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition 42 CFM CPU Cooler (Sorry BloodBath I just found better reviews on this one)
    - RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory

    The arctic is at least just as good if not better than the 212. The 212 is just a long time staple. Pretty similar anyway. I was just saving a few beans.

    Last night I build myself another configuration, so what do you guys think:

    Motherboard: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard - 119 GBP
    CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X 3.8 GHz 6-Core Processor - 173 GBP
    Cooler: ARCTIC Freezer 33 eSports ONE (Black/Yellow) CPU Cooler - 22 GBP
    RAM: 2 No. of Kingston HyperX Fury 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory - 2x62GBP = 124 GBP

    I know this is a little bit more expensive than what I originally planed but I think it would give me a better performance and an option ot OC in a future.

    Only thing I can't decide is the pc case. Whichever I chose pcpartpicker is telling me that it is not compatible and I get next error message:
    "Corsair 275R ATX Mid Tower Case has a front panel USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A port, but the MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard does not have sufficient USB 3.2 Gen 1 headers. The case USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A port will not be usable."

    But when I go to motherboard spec it has listed next connections:
    - USB 3.2 PORTS (FRONT): 2(Gen1, Type A)
    - USB 2.0 PORTS (FRONT): 4

    32GB RAM is overkill in most situations. If you want to spend more on RAM I'd get 16GB of 3600CL16. The Ballistix stuff is Micron E Die which isn't fantastic but you can tighten the timings even further. Ryzen is sensitive to memory speed in certain situations.

    Sorry missed that in your OP. There are some small advantages in some games to having 4 DIMMs but I'd suggest a 2 x 16GB kit in case you need even more RAM down the road.

    I don't think there is a huge amount of over clocking headroom in the Ryzens, as in you won't get much more performance above the stock config. Not sure if there is much a difference between the 3600 and 3600x either if you are looking to shave a little of the price.

    Well I read that 3600x be clocked to 4.4 with a decent cooler and 3600 to 4.2 and price difference is only 25GBP so it is not bad to have in reserve :)

    They will boost up to those clocks anyways without overclocking. Have a look some benchmarks to see if there is much of a difference with a manual overclock, it may be worth it for your workload but 200mhz is <5% increase in speeds versus 10% price difference.

    Yea it's not worth it. You want PBO on which a manual all core overclock will over ride. These Ryzens simply max out around 4.3Ghz which it will boost to anyway. The rare golden samples will maybe do 4.4 - 4.5 but it's barely worth it.

    For sure go for the 2 x16GB sticks as well. They will hold their value better and give you the option of going to 64GB down the line.

    Actually gave my sister my old i7 3770k about a year ago, she uses it for CAD and Sketchup, it was fairly awful performance wise when rendering. Its honestly not worth spending money to UPGRADE to an i7 that is what 7 generations old now
