Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    The skin has all the goodness. That's where it absorbs all of the nutrients - assuming they're organically grown. If they're pesticide'd to hell then that could be a different story.

    Regarding mickey-wave 'baked' potato recipes vs oven baked - try half and half. The missus worked here for a while. The method was to microwave them, scoop the flesh out and do your thing with it - bacon, spring onion, cheese, peri peri chicken - let your imagination run wild. Then pack it back in. We brought it to the next level though by taking the skins whilst the flesh had been scooped out giving them a lick of vegetable oil and frazzling them in the oven at 220 for about 15 mins. Nice and crispy on the outside. Soft on the inside. Just like Darth Vadar.

    Simply snots.

    Pretty much a no brainer if you're in a ruch althoughit's not perfect as it can evaporate the moisture in them and you're left with weird stringy shyte sometimes.

    Put the spud up on four cocktail sticks in the microwave, when it's cooked it'll start to slide down.

    I've just done the first five minutes and now turned them. There's stuff bubbling out of all the hokes I poked. Looks weird.

    You can get microwave “baking potatoes” in a 4 pack in Suoer Value, Mcacains maybe €4 or Aldi do their own version for half that.
    I guess there is nothing special about them really but mrs puts on the list so best not to argue.

    The €4 ones are worth it over the others. McCain use a far superior potato.

    First experiment with microwave-cooked potatoes. Five minutes, then flip and three more minutes. Cut open, salt + pepper. Cut small hole in defrosted bag and pour juices all over potatoes. Add the rest of the bag. Two and a half minutes more.

    Potatoes are absolutely fine. Very easy and quick.

    A turmeric chicken dish I made a few weeks ago (pic at bottom of that thread). Got a load of frozen meals left over now where I just have to add a carb like I did today.

    And it's a bunny.

    Much tastier if you microwave them for 5 mins, while this is happening preheat the oven to 180-200 Deg. When the 5 mins in the microwave is up put on a drop of olive oil and a sprinkle of sea salt and finish in the oven for about 30 mins depending on size of potato.

    I used to make scrambled egg in the microwave. 2 eggs, a bit of but, mix, then microwave. After add more butter and mix, put it on bread. Scrambled egg sandwich

    Just going out in the gale to fetch turf in from the stack by the cliffs...Battling the wind... as the waves roar in just a few yards away.. harvesting Kale and yep, burrowing for a few spuds,,, ;)

    I just found out this is really common in America. Never even heard of it before.

    And apparently it works. Ten minutes and you have a baked potato.

    Weird.

    I cannot boil a spud to save my life, despite getting idiot-proof instructions, looking at videos, taking instructions off t'internet, trying different varieties, and wasting about a fieldsworth of potatoes trying over the years. I've now officially given up.


    The microwave is a lifesaver.

    The instructions are literally - put spud in water, bring to boil, simmer for a bit untill soft!

    It does work, however you will get a better skin in the oven.

    What you could perhaps do is microwave them then put them under the broiler of the oven quickly with some aul butter? Never tried it I can't eat too many spuds or carbs in general really.

    Tbh, I think its more your presentation that the quality of the food, I'm sure it tastes great but it just looks kinda slapped together with a forlorn looking chili being the sole other colour source in a sea of beige. perhaps a dollop of coleslaw along with some broccoli to break it up a bit.

    Am I the only one who peels potatoes before eating them? Never got the love of the skin...

    Try this trick I learnt over on the airfryer thread- season your potato skins with salt and put them into a hot airfryer for 3-4 minutes during which time they will dehydrate and crisp up. Serve in a bowl topped with grated cheese, bacon too if you want to push the boat out. Crunchy potato skins are delish.

    Well yes exactly; they need teaching basics from scratch . We were raised to peel and cook potatoes; try giving a potato and a knife to many younger folk!

    We had advantages they have not had! And how many younger folk eat boiled potatoes? Usually chips or baked
