Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It doesn't matter, the game is over.

But Martial was on his way over.

Yeah it was clear that Martial took a dive and was on his way down before any challenge was made.

But because he got clipped mid dive with the feintest of touches, it counts as a foul and no attempt to play the ball and straight red.

Ludicrous decision to award the red card .

    Why?
The ref must have felt martial was getting onto the ball.

    9-0

    Southampton doing a Southampton

    Which ones?

Offside against Adams and the Martial penalty.

Fair play to Utd though...absolutely battered them.

    That's it in a nutshell.

As I say, it doesn't matter really. Southampton have been walloped. But I just feel for the defender and team who suffer a double punishment in that scenario.

He has something to cry about now

But the VAR showed it was offside and Martial was clipped by the defender... you might not like the decisions but they were correct.

    Insane decision

  • Bruno the best in the league with another assist Brilliant result tonight

A sexual 9-0 scoreline with a massive boost to GD
And crucially and Thankfully no injuries

Ole has managed his squad much better than many managers in the league this season

Hasn't ran them ragged and ran them into injury risks like some others

    Congrats all round

Martial dived. Him getting some contact on the way down doesn’t justify a penalty and a red. Premier League officiating is at its worst right now and it’s not much to do with VAR.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,081 ✭✭✭Fromvert

Hasenhuttl could do with learning how to not let his team be embarrassed when the game starts going against you.

A second 9-0 in just over a year :o. he turned it around the last time but they are one some bad run of form at the minute.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,025 ✭✭✭duffman13

Great result and Utd battered them first half. Should have probably had a peno, Adams was never off side and that was not a peno for the second red for me

Cavani should start every game from now till end of season in my opinion! Different class

So you agree there was contact. He might have held back waiting for it but the contact happened so its a penalty. He was the last defender and made no attempt to play the ball...hence a red card. Its the rules.

I'm not debating if he looked for it, he did but it happened and those are the rules.

Premier League referees and VAR are killing the game.

Those Luiz and Bednarek red cards, the slow motion reviewing of real-time incidents, the bizarre offside decisions, it's just draining the joy from the game.

He dived into the defender who was trying to pull out. You would get penalties in every game if that was all you had to do to win one.

Martial should have been booked and it left at that.

I've seen a few such comments on different subjects about players reacting supposedly looking for attention today. This, and supposedly Connolly in deactivating his twitter - honestly, wtf like? Are people not allowed to just genuinely feel emotions for no other reason than that they feel emotion?

Its not. Contact per se does not automatically mean a penalty. If it did, there would be a penalty after every corner kick. Either the rules or the refs are now ridiculous. Oh for the days of Norman Hunter, Tommy Smith and Chopper Harris. When they tackled, it was a proper tackle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,372 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

The standard of refereeing in the PL must be at an all time low. And it’s no better now even though they actually get to look at TV replays of incidents. It’s almost a lottery.

So the highest ever wins in Premier league is 9-0 which has been done 3 times and Hasenhuttl has been on the receiving end for 2 of them? I like him as a manager but that's embarrassing

So he dived forward into a player coming in from the side? That's not actually physically possible. The ref gave the pen, then looked at the screen and still decided there was enough contact for a pen.

Ah stop he feel on his knees crying cause they beat Liverpool on there own ground,
Youd swear he was managing a Sunday league team and manged it

VAR and bad refereeing is sucking the life out of the game. It's a shadow of the sport it used to be.

there could be a debate there.

players are honest, and maybe get a peno or goal. or nothing

players stay up, potentially **** the chance and not get the peno.

dont know what the solution is, but i would presume teams have done the research and have deemed it better ROI on going down. thats a ref issue

Really like Hassenhuttl but there's definitely a bit of the Bielsa's about him regarding criticism he gets, he deserves to be slaughtered after that.

They bounced back very well after the last one when lots were writing them off as relegation fodder. At the end of the day it's the same amount of points lost as a 1-0 loss. One result doesn't define them.

You say he dived into him but he didn't change his direction of movement. The defender was silly.

    Enjoyed that.

I don't know how any fan could enjoy such a one sided affair. I'd prefer a goalless draw in a junior match to that.

It's actually a compliment to Liverpool that he was crying.

    Ah stop

The defender made no attempt to play the ball. He was going in opposite direction.

    Even at 0-0 that's a penalty

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,348 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

Really don't think you can read much into that from Southampton perspective. Being wrecked by injuries and having a lad who's starting his first ever game sent-off 90 seconds into the match mean that there's more than normal mitigating circumstances.

United will have enjoyed that though. Still can't believe how good Shaw looks. He was the man-of-the-match easily, despite only playing for half of it.
