Barcelona hammered Athletic Bilbao 4 nil in the final of the Copa Del Rey.
4 goals in 13 minutes on the hour mark.

Messi is just so good. It's almost laughable at this stage how consistently genius he is. Wow.

That's the 2020 and 2021 finals lost in a couple of weeks for Athletic club. Hopefully they can do better in the league now.

2 goals at the end of the first half and another 2 at the start of the second half see Atletico go 4-0 and on the way to a valuable 3 points.

You just know it's going to come down to the Atletico vs Barcelona game to decide it.

Real Madrid vs Getafe ended goaless.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,920 ✭✭✭The Floyd p

Barca currently 3-1 up against Getafe. 2 nice stats to come out of Messi's two goals so far.

Another nil all draw for Real Madrid, this time against Betis.

They seem to have reverted to type after a brief spell where they were able to get a few vital wins against Liverpool and Barcelona.

Atletico go to Bilbao tomorrow and Barcelona go to Villareal.

That was a poor result for them, big dent in their title aspirations.

But to be fair they have flattered to deceive all season. Even though they got past Liverpool I thought they were average enough.

Need to lift themselves again for a tough game versus Chelsea on Tuesday.

Thats true, they have been struggling for goals.

There is a serious lack of goal threat in the team, only 56 goals in 33 games.
They were fortunate against Liverpool, the goals they got were all defensive errors.

The game on Tuesday could be a very dull affair.

Barcelona won earlier at Villareal and Atletico are trailing 1-0 at Bilbao with 20 minutes to go.

Atletico manage to draw the game in the 77th minute.
In the 86th minute Bilbao go back in front!

    A.Madrid throwing the title away

If Barca win their game in hand will they go top because of head to head?

If Barcelona win their game in hand they would have 74 points.
    Atletico currently have 73.

Its going to be a good finish to the season.
Atletico go to the Nou Camp in 2 weeks.

Would be something else if Sevilla came out of nowhere to win it, they're just 3pts off top after tonights result.

Yeah where did they come out of, they have won 15/17 of their last league games.
46/51 points, the only defeat being by Barcelona.

Interestingly Seville go to Real Madrid the same weekend as Barcelona play Atletico so it should be a vital weekend.

    Fantastic win for Granada.

Barca losing at home. Not exactly what they needed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,995 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Another big result as we near the end of the season.

It appears no-one wants to win the league this year.

I think it just highlights how average the top Spanish teams are at present. Watching what passed as a Real Madrid team in a CL semi final the other night, shows how far they have dropped off. Pedestrian, no punch , lack of creativity. Major overhaul needed but hard to do with no funds.

    Dreadful result.

Had the chance to go top and blew it, still mental issues within the team.

I wouldnt be surprised if Barcelona beat or draw with Atletico and Real win the league.

Would love to see Sevilla do it.

After years of being an Atleti fan, I'm preparing myself for the bottle job, despite the 'handy' enough run-in. Mad that Barca have so many away games. Aren't Celta one of their bogey teams?

Next weekend will give us a better picture. If Madrid win, I reckon it'll be theirs. A Sevilla win and a draw in the other game would at least make it interesting.

Atletico win 1-0, huge win, Elche hit the post from a pen in injury time.

If Barca beat Valencia tomorrow and Sevilla beat Bilbao on Monday, it will be set up beautifully for next week's round of games:

    Barca vs Atletico
    Madrid vs Sevilla

Sevilla normally bottle every game vs Barca/Real (messi has like a 100 goals vs them) if they win Monday i think they might have a chance.

Messi with a lovely free kick. 3-1 now and what a turnaround.

Sets up next weekends game perfectly

They have done unbelievably well to get where they are.
They had a very difficult run in, Bilbao, Real Madrid, Valencia, Villareal and Alaves.

Monchi is doing a phenomenal job there, the man has the midas touch.

Buying 30 players and hoping a few play well to get a sale isnt the midas touch, its buying 30 players and never once creating a cohesive team with form in the league.

ELs were won by good managers.

Best signing this season is Papu who was just luck due to his falling out with Atlanta.

Monchi makes the club a phenomenal amount of money but for a director of football you would think he would create a decent team.

Dembele really is such a frustrating player to watch

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,672 ✭✭✭elefant

If Barca don't win this, Dembele will likely have cost them both a champions league and a league title by two terrible finishes. Hard to think of another player who has had such specific costly moments.

If Real Madrid beat Sevilla tomorrow, they are joint top with Atletico and there's three matches remaining.

If teams are deadlocked at the top of La Liga, the head-to-head is taken first. Real Madrid hold that advantage over Atletico.

Great result for Madrid. Still expect some more twists and turns.

They'll be sick if Real beat them on hth. This would be along with two European cups they should have won, Real pipping them in the closest way possible in both. Real seem to always have the luck over them

Well that's the thing. They would be favourites for each one in isolation, but the overall level of difficulty is such there is at least a strong possibility drop points at some stage, most likely this evening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,259 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

Wouldn't rule Sevilla out of it until we see tongiht's result.

Barca are the team I see as most likely to win all their remaining games but I wouldn't be sure of it. I reckon Atleti will get six or seven points and Madrid will probably get similar.

The title is there for the taking for whoever wants it but none of them have been consitent enough over the season to convince me.

This league is wide open still.

    No-one wants to win it!
