Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

& yet despite all his attempted moral high ground spluttering, they in fact didn't change it this morning......instead regaling as to how they came up with the name just last week & how chuffed Doireann was with herself about it

What's next on 2fm breakfast - The Chase / Catchphrase / Who Wants to be a millionaire?

Dear God, he wanted everyone to kowtow to his whims with Fairytale of New York and the 'scumbag, you maggot, you cheap lousy f***ot' line. but stealing from a competitor and then being a passive aggressive jerk about it all is the exact kind of thing you expect from Eoghann.

He's not just a bad radio presenter, he's a bad person.

I don't understand why there isn't national outrage at the fact that 2fm got 6.7 million from the licence fee last year. That means 2fm now gets more from the licence fee than RTE lyric does. Mentioned it a few times, hard to get people pushed about it. Said it at a conference recently when someone point to the 30million hole in RTÉ budget, told the speaker that RTÉ had inflected further cuts such as an €6m to 2fm, €3m extra to imported programming and €6m to their corporate HQ at least €15m moved from programme making to areas that took no cuts. But sure you may as well be talking to a wall.

The bloatedness of 2fm is staggering, E.G 11 presenters arcoss the day on a Saturday whereas Today FM manage fine with 5 presenters on a Saturday

It's probably not just a 2FM issue, but everytime they have a Lewis Capaldi song - they HAVE to always remind us about his instagram account.

    Oh God... Lewis Capaldi...

I often put on random playlists while I work. Set it to shuffle, and work away.

Capaldi comes on and I hit that "skip track button" so fast, I'm a blur.

I normally can get thru any song by gritting my teeth and baring with it.

    Capaldi is insufferable.

I think that's a sign that 2FM is not for you. I'm sure it's fine for what it is - a youth station. In comparison to the train wreck that is Today FM, 2FM seems to be doing fine. It is a horrendous waste of taxpayer's money, which is my biggest beef with it. Nobody has the cojones to close the station down though.

That's the problem, you listen to Spin FM, to name just one radio station, and there's a balance of modern music with GOOD music.

2fm, you can tell when they're paid to promote music. Not good stuff, just paid. There's a difference between putting out good music, and paid promotion.

Seems Zamps show is pretty much going to be like a radio version of the front page of Cosmo. SEX seems to be the only topic she wants to talk about.

Ah, fer fecks sake... Sex and the City was almost 20 years ago, is this how 'up to date' RTE are?

And it's a morning show... ya just want lazy listening while the coffee kicks in... not nonsense.

Wasn't this the station supposed to appeal to the 'youth'... Your show is dated already.
Cripes... will her next topic be 'That internet is quite corking. My 56Kbps connection tonite was amazing-I downloaded a WHOLE song'.

And again. She now has a weekly guest sex expert.

Its bottom of the barrel stuff.

I liberally dont mind her show but she needs to branch out a bit.

Switched it on today for I would say 1 minute. She was taking about how she was going to advise people to deal with a boss in work. I switched it off as I presume it was something along the lines of 'Ride him!'

Agree, first time in years that I've started listening to 2fm at that hour of the day. Probably as far back as Will Leahy or further however long that is.

If you're not a woman aged 25-40 then bugger off from 2fm in the mid morning.

A truly bizarre attitude. The only bright spot being Zamp is 39 herself so hopefully she's out the gap soon.

"Unlike TV, where it's pretty instant, radio takes time to build up a show."

No the difference is you get TV statistics the next day, on Radio you get it 6 months later.

I don't believe she is 39. Wasn't there something about her lying about her age at some stage?

    43 I'd say

Wouldn't surprise me, I have suspicions many presenters lie about their ages.

I don't think it was, I do believe KAtey French lied about her age. Definitely look a lot older than 24.

If you are declaring an age not equal to your actual age and working for state media you should be sacked for fraud. If I pay a licence for TV to stop me being imprisoned I'd expect state media to provide accurate ages for those they employ/contract.

That's a bit Draconian. Even if you apply for a job, they don't need to know your age on your CV.

RTE can maintain records of peoples ages, date of Births or whatever. But they don't have to disclose them to the public.

If someone employed/contracted by RTE declares their age and it doesn't equal their actual age it needs to be revealed by RTE as fraud.

Pat Kenny asked some genuine questions in the Irish daily star today about 2fm. He made one quote where it was a station with music with a little talk, to now being a station with little music and a lot of talk.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,168 ✭✭✭Ursus Horribilis

Didn't 2fm once have a slogan that went "More music, less talk". Or was it one of the other stations?

Well, radio stations usually get paid for certain tracks, and music promotion. The increase in talking is probably down to music companies not paying to promote their music. (It's similar to when you go into a supermarket, and see certain products at eye level, others higher up, or lower down. The products at eye level pay to be at eye level).
So they have to fill that endless gap of no music with 'talk'.

It's a shame, there was a time when 2fm was the pulse of music radio in IReland... now you're lucky to find a pulse.
    Too obsessed with identity politics.

I think that's been the slogan of pretty much every so called music station in the country for the last 20 years and it's mainly been false advertising.

It could have been 2fm as they don't have the News and Current Affairs content requirements that other stations do.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,168 ✭✭✭Ursus Horribilis

It definitely wasn't Q102 because I've never listened to it in my life. It was either 2FM or one of the big two Dublin stations in the 1990s when I was at uni. I had a feeling it was 2fm but now I'm not so sure.

Anything received from labels is in kind not cash. And it hasn't got that huge an influence now that there's a much smaller range of record labels.

Well, they receive the music-but then are given financial incentives to play it at specific times, where there is a large audience and thus greater chance of sales.
They want their acts music heard by the most people. Whether it's the early breakfast, or the drive home.
It's quite interesting if you read up on it-some of it can be 'play our artist during this time slot, and we can arrange for him/her to come on your station' to the more scurrilous stuff of 'we'll pay your rent'.

More music, less talk was a Q102 strap line from around 2013.

I tuned in to 2FM yesterday..

Not sure who was on instead of Jennifer - a guy and a girl.

It was good radio - chatting about gigs and making fun of Nile Rogers playing Ireland all the time.

Then tuned in again later to Jenny Greene - again good radio - distinctive voice, show and some good music.
