Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi folks - I'm looking for some advice. I am building a 2 bay lean too shed, 20 feet wide and thirty feet in length. I have the 6 legs in ground and went about looking for timbers for roof, I am looking for (4) 12" x 3" at 21 foot lengths and (17). 6" x 3". I am finding it very difficult to get the 12" x 3 " and those that have them are looking for big money for them.

Does anybody know of a saw mill that is competitively priced, preferably in the Munster area or alternatively I have ESB poles big enough for my 12"x 3" planks, but I can't find anyone to mill them.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated

9x3 planks would do you fine. I have them in the roof of my shed.

9x3 should be fine. Have a 47' x 42' A roof shed with 9x3s and 6x3 purlins with no problems. Its standing 35+ years now.

If your worried about strength just go for 6x3 rsj

At 21 foot 12 x 3 will be hard found. Get the metal purlins. Will work out cheaper and easier got.

Thanks all, Can the metal purlins be secured to the 7 x3.5 h iron legs the same way as timber and what kind of money would they be for the 21 foot lengths.

If your looking for timber 21 ft long might be one thing, but getting one strong enough to take any kind of load bearing I another. The longer the unsupported span, the weaker the timber.

21 ft lenghts were around e26 plus vat the last time I priced them. There's cleats that can be got to weld onto the h irons for bolting the purlins on.

Great information, Tks very much folks. I think I have found someone to mill our ESB poles at home for €40 per hour. I think these will certainly be strong enough, and will get them out of the way.
