Changing fireplace

Is it a major job to change the fireplace? We currently have a normal fireplace burning coal, logs and briquettes. Love the heat it gives off but as it's a little messy and costly (compared to kerosene at the moment), we only light it at the weekend.
If we changed to a stove, would it be major work?
If we stick with a normal fireplace, but change the style, is that mad money?
Currently have black granite hearth, black rounded surround, with oak mantelpiece.
I would love a white limestone mantelpiece with herringbone tiles inside the fire itself. Are there any Irish companies that people would recommend?

We got JR Fireplaces in Dublin 9 to replace the original 1930's fireplace and take out the old de-commissioned back boiler.

We went for the Munich fireplace but we did not want a stove.

All in labour, supply, VAT for €1,450.
