Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just borrowed the Teenage Dirtbag Years after reading the column in the Tribune a few times in recent months, very humourous. He's not a totally unredeemable or unsympathetic character, though maybe that's just me being nice...

Saw his Orange Mocha Chip Frapuccino Years book in a store in Bangkok and thought it looked funny (in an in-joke sorta way) I bought it coz it was cheap and although I read the first 30 odd pages or so I just got sick of his style of writing especially the way he has to write EVERYTHING in that roight goys any soign of Fiacra and Lorcan etc etc.... it just became tiresome so I gave up (and I don't give up on books easily). Might get back to it at some stage unless I can trade it for something better!

I think that's what makes it so funny paul, if he was a complete bastard all the time it'd be a bit boring and wouldn't be able to make the point that it was his upbringing and background that had him turn out the way he did...

The books are pretty funny :)

Read all these in about a week! Focking hilarious. tbh i'm glad I dont know anyone like this (even though i'm, for the time being, living in blackrock)

Some of the funniest books i've read.

'Looks like you'll have to get off at sydney parade' had me in stiches for weeks.

'I wanted to call this book, 'The Guy who went to sleep in a bed, but woke up in a tent' but it wouldnt fit on the cover'

Also had me giggling like a school girl!

Does anyone know where "The Miseducation of Ross O' Carroll Kelly" can be bought? I can't find it anywhere.

Try www.obrien.ie - they're the publishers & might have some kicking around the place that you could buy

I used to date guys just like Ross in my single days, have all the books & almost cry with laughter every time I read them, and the columns in the Trib. The guy is a legend!

    ROFL, how dumb were you?

Your name's not Sorcha is it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,303 ✭✭✭ionapaul

How do they pronounce Sorcha in D4?

In Galway, we always pronounced it 'Sir-uh-ka', but I've heard 'Soir-sha' before?

There's a new book out soon, roysh?

Ross is a focking legend, and we're talking TOTALLY here. So is Christian, and Fionn (the sneaky focker), and even Oisinn. When Oisinn, like, went on Cilla Black and flashed his knob at Clur, I was like, in stitches, the funny fock. What makes the books for me, like, if this doesn't sound too gay, is that Ross isn't a complete orsehole. You can see that Christian and even, OH! MY! GOD! Sorcha (even though that girl is, like, SO! duhhhhhh!) mean a lot to him, even though he treats them like ****. He's a stor.

Adrian mole rip-off? As in a book that's written in the first-person?

That's around about where the similarities end.

Adrian Mole was a teenage anxt book, Ross O'C-K is anything but anxty!

I hate saying this (boards clichés aren't my thing) but:

    Sarcasm detectors not working today?

(!) is generally accepted to be indicative of sarcastic comments, but I've noticed people here using [/sarcasm]

maybe i should stick with that

Well, he should be shot so.

    The order is as follows:

    The Miseducation Years
    The Teenage Dirtbag Years
    The Orange Mocha-chip Frappuccino Years
    PS, I Scored the Bridesmaids
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightdress

Now, with any hope this thread will be left to die.

For any fans of the series you might be interested to know that RTE have commissioned a pilot for a TV series of ROCK. My flatmate did the sound for it. Whether it gets the go-ahead to become a series or not I've no idea but the pilot has been shot and my flatmate reckoned that it looked like it could be quite good. :)

As a fan of the book, I sincerely hope this doesn't happen. Look what the books brought about.
