Were to buy mid to high end laptops?

I'm upgrading and looking for a reasonably high end laptop but there seems to be a severe lack of outlets in Ireland. I'm not a gamer but I do some 3D work.

I've 90% decided on this one (though I'm a little concerned about the noise) at Komplett.ie which seems to be fairly well priced but just wondering does anyone have any suggestions on other outlets before I pull the trigger? I have looked as Scan.co.uk.

something like this would be sufficient I would say for 3d work offering much better battery life and the cpu being on par if the gpu down but still good

much nicer build and more portable

the lcd back panel thing is only on the highest end model currently out of stock

it's a smaller screen but for such work I'd guess that you'd be using a monitor when at home

you could look at the new xps 17 if you really want 17 inch

Hi Glasso, thanks for the suggestion. Great specs for the price but Yikes! 50dB fans. Is that what these machines get up to? That's loud. I presume that's only when the graphics are being pushed?

Anything smaller than 17" is really a non runner for me. Not actually because of the screen size but because I do a lot of Autocad work too and couldn't manage without a numpad. I know I could get a separate USB one but it's not as convenient.

any laptop with a discrete GPU will have fans going when it's under full load

the more powerful the GPU the more likely this is to be the case -> more heat

the one that you're looking at probably goes up to that noise level also ... check reviews carefully

not sure how far 3d software usage pushes it compared to max settings on games

probably not as much consistently I guess

I'll look into this a bit more tomorrow. Always heard bad things about Dell though.

although you are limiting your choice so much due to so few laptops having numeric keypads these days that I'd really look at the option of using an external one

opens up a selection of so many quality laptops
