Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

That pre-order is no different than Sparta (Greek states) in Rome 2. Of course they were there but if you wanted to imagine yourself as Leonidas screaming 'This is Sparta!!!!!' you had to pay.

And of course as a Rome 2 early getter, no more Total Wars for me til GOTY editions.

Don't think you need to wait that long, the Humble bundles from Sega have had a lot of Total War. Only reason I've got Rome 2 and Attila, as I was perfectly happy still playing Shogun 2.

It's definitely more significant then the Sparta pre-order bonus. Chaos are one of the main factions in the Warhammer universe, as well as being one of the first factions many people would play as, so leaving them out is a pretty ****ty thing to do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,553 ✭✭✭✭Varik

Having the first real DLC faction as free for pre-orders would have been better, as with all the older Total war games there's going to be no end of them.

Tomb Kings would be an easy option.

I'm going to pirate this because I paid for Rome 2 but got a steaming pile of unplayable noise. They owe me a game :pac:

I said the same after Rome II - but i've been known to get bored easily and cave into hype, i might just preorder this

It's more similar to if there was a Total War: Greece and you had to buy DLC to plays as Sparta or Athens. This faction is that fundamental to the lore and history of this game which is why people are more annoyed than the usual for pre-order DLC.

lots of FREELC announced, doubtless there'll be as much to pay for too, but lost of free stuff planned is good.

Over the last few years we’ve been releasing a load of free content alongside updates and paid-for DLCs; from new playable factions and units, free additional formats like Linux and Mac and even an entire Campaign Pack expansion.

For Total War: Warhammer, you can also expect a selection of content covering more of the iconic good stuff you’ll see in the main game; from new units offering new tactical potential in battle, to new magic lores to augment certain races’ spell-casting arsenal. Perhaps most importantly for long-term replayability, you can also expect to see the occasional new Legendary Lord who will shake up a race’s strategic potential in interesting new ways. Last but not least, towards the end of the year we will add a new playable race to the game, including new Legendary Lords, magic items, quest chains, and units. The image below gives you a rough idea of our plan on this, subject to change. The best way to keep up-to-date with new content as it drops is to follow us on our official Social Media channels, where we will always be announcing the latest news as it happens.

I get the chaos preorder complaints but c'mon.. this is their roadmap of actual free content for the game, the same game you're gonna buy and happily consent to all that stuff :P

If someone wants to complain about DLC try the "Blood & Gore" DLC.

Video interview highlighting some of the design and AI changes for siege battles. I'm still not convinced - think I'll let some of you guys be the guinea pigs for this one. :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,792 ✭✭✭2Mad2BeMad

few things are still quite bad
if you watch in the video, the units still close together while going through the door in nearly single lines just like previous total wars
and Calvary charge seems to stop dead once the first few horses reach the first few units their attacking.

Still excited for the game though. But these 2 things always bugged me in tw games

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 937 ✭✭✭Dair76

Yeah, cav charges have never been good. Although I did see a video of someone playing this where they commented on the cavalry being much improved. I'll try to find it in my Youtube history!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 937 ✭✭✭Dair76

Found it. Eventually. And now I remember that it was a CA employee who was bigging up the new cavalry charge mechanics. Self praise is no praise etc.

Anyway, the relevant parts are at ~17:30 and ~18:45.

Giants still seem to be going to great effort to avoid doing too much damage.

    Preordered today :)

I no longer have the right to complain about the game on launch if it's buggy as hell, completely unoptimised, sieges break the game, it wont run, AI turns take ten minutes, or any other damn thing the Rome II had wrong with it :D

But idc, it's pretty much the only other AAA game this year i'm interested in.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,758 ✭✭✭DeadHand

Do Chaos seem ridiculously OP to anyone else?

In the last video released on youtube we see them charge up hill against an apparently top tier, equally valued Dwarf army (who are meant to be defensive specialists) with tons of artillery and basically massacre them in minutes for little obvious loss.

Wasn't like the the chap playing them pulled out any Napoleonic stops either- he basically pointed and clicked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,751 ✭✭✭✭degrassinoel

    just gonna watch that now

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EIkvHD7MU8

First week of release will include the chaos faction, after that ye have to pay extra for it.

    That's fair enough to me.

It's a much better solution than day 1 DLC or pre-order bonuses.

They get the early rush of sales, people get to see if the game is worth it.

It looks great. Warhammer Fantasy isn't really my bag but it's cool enough to have me interested.
I've never played a TW game either.

It'll probably float around my wish list for a couple of years until I eventually pick it up when all the DLC is out and the bugs are fixed, but that's just because I don't trust myself to play the games I buy impulsively anymore so I've mostly stopped buying them.

Seriously? Ye should give shogun 2 a shot the next time it's on sale, it's cheap and probably the most stable of them all.

Yeah, i can see why people would be pissed off about the preorder bonus, and seems like sega did too, apparently the game itself is up for critic reviews before it's release as well, which is unusual these days. An optimist might say it's because they're confident it'll do well with critics, but then i'm no optimist. :P It's probably more to do with previous agreements and the release date pushback.. /cynic ha but yeah, there's at least that much, plus the additional week after launch with the preorder to see how things roll with it
