Finally gave BF5 multiplayer a decent go and i'm sure a lot of people like it. But it reminds me how much I miss BF3 and Bad Company 2's multiplayer.

i still need to give the new metro a go but i used to love BF3 metro running into a hail of bullets throwing down smoke somehow not getting shot then waiting for teamates to spawn then absolutly destroying the enemy before they start to spawn behind you and kill you

^ It was an amazing game. Metro could very well be the best map of BF3.
Wish Battlefield 6 (or whatever they call it) goes more back to BF3 or Bad Company.
Only my opinion but both aforementioned games were better than BF4, BF1 and BF5.

Operation Locker wasnt bad either it also gave me the LOL moments when people tried stupid tactics and somehow it worked out, they should put all these small linear maps into a playlist i used to play metro/Locker 24/7 servers

I wasnt even aware there was a Metro remake map until you said. Whats the deal, I tried googling it but is it DLC or free? All I find are videos showing it.

Yep operation underground, quite good, feel it improved on some of metros weakpoints!

Have a look for it in the server browser.

I can't seem to like it.
I was such a fan of Metro. I guess I'm looking for something too much like it.

The 2 new Pacific maps are fantastic.
It's like a whole new game playing on them.

The Fliegerfaust has to be nerfed in the next patch ....in one round I took down 15 planes .

Yeah , sadly the wider gaming community has already made up its mind on the game.
I had too but was willing to give these maps and new patch a go and im glad i did.
If the game shipped in this state it would be immensely popular.

I think a lot of people who bought it and stopped playing it are getting back into the game again now. I know I am and I've people on my friends list playing it that I haven't seen in the game in a long time.

I think we sometimes forget that this often happens with Battlefield though. Battlefield 4 is admired by the community now but that wasn't necessarily the case on release. It was subsequent maps and updates that made it what it is now.

Dice forgot how to make maps after BF3 tbh, very few decent ones since.
Maps and gameplay are crucial to keep people playing.

The flamethrower has added a whole new dimension of chaos to the game, be it the one you pick up or the tank specialisation. Not mad on the katana, doesn't do it for me.

Current speculation is that it's Guadalcanal being tested at the end.

Yeah, originally it was just thought to be somewhere in the Solomon islands and the jungle terrain would fit the bill for Guadalcanal

Back playing this since I got the premier for Jedi fallen order but I see BF is on the basic package now
I'm level 50 with tons of outfits that I earned through the game, what happens if I go to basic or even buy a BF5 key off a website. Can I still login to my own account. I don't care for the free stuff I got with premier but I would like to keep my level and outfits I earned

You always keep your level, I don't think any unlocks will lock again. They only thing that might would be some items included in the year 2 edition. But the idea is you can always sub again and keep playing. You never lose progress.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,689 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Ive been subbing on and off for BFV but i bought it for €14 during Black Friday sale.
Remember weapons that come with the year 2 edition which is a lot more expensive can be bought with CC company coins the ingame currency whcih you get plenty of just by playing the game and doing assignments so theres no point buying the year 2 version.

Cheers that's good. Haven't played since feb but was really enjoying it past 2 days playing for fun unlike last time trying to unlock everything, hope not to go down that route again. Think I have about 80k cc but I see they added real cash the sneaky bastards

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,689 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

80k CC will buy you plenty of weapons you dont have.

How are the TTK changes going down? I've not had a chance to play yet but anything that makes this less COD like is good in my books.

Pretty bad. It's not fun when it takes 6-13 shots to kill someone. With some weapons it takes 10 hits to kill at 50m.
Pistols out perform a lot of weapons now. They implemented it hoping it would help newer, less skilled players but it increases the skill gap as it benefits more accurate players.

But the new auto spotting mechanic is even worse than the ttk.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,762 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

I feared that when I saw them talking about distance. I get the idea that bullets lose velocity over distance, but it makes no sense if someone can have 5+bullets stuck in them and still sprint and aim at you unimpeded.

I just want to be able to come under fire and have 1/2 second to react. Sometimes I haven't even pressed the move right button and I'm dead. That's about 200-300ms.

I got into one firefight recently, but the only reason it felt like a firefight is we had both had medics just constantly standing back reviving. We went to battle for 2-3 mins with another squad and it felt great. The rest of the time it is just dying and respawning.

Totally blown out of proportion by the noisey minority.
Its fine and actually makes the game better in a lot of ways, yes there are a few weapons that have gone from God tier to not God tier and thats why the whingers are out in force.
Its only a handful of weapons that have issues and they will be addressed according to DICE, even so ive used these so called bad weapons a lot and still do fine with them.
Looking at the bigger picture this patch has made the game better than ever for me and the lads i game with.
If like me you dislike Modern Warfare TTK you will enjoy BFV TTK now.
Wake island coming tomorrow too, no better time to jump in.
They implemented it hoping it would help newer, less skilled players but it increases the skill gap as it benefits more accurate players.

They never said it was to help new players , thats just the narrative the moaners on reddit are running with but its simply not true.
You are 100% correct that it now benefits players with better aim, and thats whats makes it great again.

Im getting a lot less cheese deaths now, if i die its more often than not my own fault or i was simply outplayed and thats thanks to the passive spotting of jonny camper lying in the bush.
This was in the BF series before too infact it was even as far back as BF1942 yet the whingers claims its new to the series.

Really enjoying this more and more.
I'd normally only play Conquest, but Breakthrough on the Pacific maps is amazing!

It's taking more hits to kill alright, but go for better headshots to take them down faster.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 14,689 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dcully

Thats it whiskeyman , hitting headshots consistently and being able to stay on target for more than a millisecond is the key and i feel is what dice wanted to achieve with this update.
Thankfully they have stated they do not want to revert it back despite the crying from some parts of the community.

Im loving Breakthrough too, while i wasnt mad about any of the vanilla maps they certainly play very well in Breakthrough but as you say the pacific maps really shine in Breakthrough.

That's quite disengenuous as it’s far more than a few weapons and a number of weapons have become pea shooters beyond 30m. One of the reasons for plowing ahead with this contentious patch was to increase the number of viable weapons. They’ve reduced it substantially. Before the patch I used most weapons, little to no weapons I wouldn’t use. Can’t say that now.
Looking at the bigger picture this patch has made the game better than ever for me and the lads i game with.

I really dislike Modern Warfare’s TTK and was one of the main reasons I didn’t buy it after the beta. BFV didn't have that problem,it had a slower TTK than BF3 and BF4.
They never said it was to help new players , thats just the narrative the moaners on reddit are running with but its simply not true.
You are 100% correct that it now benefits players with better aim, and thats whats makes it great again.
My accuracy is in the top 0.9% so this update benefits me but when trying to view it objectively I still believe it’s worse.

They did say it was to help new players, quite openly in fact.

I've selected a number of quotes from their community manager regarding the reasoning for the update and changes

“It comes as a result of very carefully planned changes that encourage a better entry point for players wanting to commit to Battlefield”
“The balance doesn't cater to enough play styles, leaving a player who isn't highly skilled without options that may be easier to use, but have less overall damage per second.”
“nor did it achieve our objectives of helping to reduce the frustration experienced by players who are looking to get into Battlefield. “
“Longer Range combat is harder and leads to frustration more often.”
“We need to refresh the game in order to maintain a healthy game and a healthy player base.”
“Some of these changes are certainly focused on making a players initial experience with the game a less punishing one.”

There’s plenty more but from those alone it’s quite clear their main objective is attracting and retaining players.

Your post had an impressive amount of ad hominems. Whingers and moaners always disagreeing with me, creating conspiracies and boogeymen.

Even if they hadn’t said it explicitly, massively reducing recoil, prominently highlighting enemies and making it harder to die are all obvious gameplay mechanics designed to help new players
I’m dying less too after the update but it’s just not as fun as it takes longer to down enemies and it’s harder to get multi kills now. Flanks aren’t as rewarding now. Pistols are better in close quarters than most weapons now, that’s ridiculous.

    On the TTK stuff, they just posted this which seems promising ;
    https://old.reddit.com/r/BattlefieldV/comments/e9oxzo/community_broadcast_improving_update_52/

I admit, I've been away past 2 weeks so haven't been able to play and see if it was truly as bad as people make it out to be, but will be happy at the reduction of the spotting dorito marker things. There's no need for them!
