Planting Bare Root - How long can I leave it

    Hi,

I was hoping to put in quite a bit of hedging and trees between Christmas & New Years.

I'm afraid of ordering now and having them sit there a week or two until I'm ready. Likewise, I need to get them ordered or I won't have them in time.

Can I leave them in water for a week while I get myself ready?

    Thanks

You can, the other thing you can do is dig a loose trench somewhere and heel them in if you have space.

if you bag the roots and have them slightly damp they should last a few weeks as long as kept in a cool place.

I often use buckets to keep them.

Add a bit of compost, stick in roots, cover with damp compost. Keep cool and dark if possible. Has kept them weeks this time of year.

Compost is good to reuse afterwards.
