Hi there. We are planning on getting an extension to our kitchen and were thinking of getting bi fold doors put in ( approx 5 meters). I've been reading various reports about quality etc. Would be great to hear about people's experiences with these and to find out how they hold up over time. In two minds whether to go with these or sliding doors at the moment. Thanks in advance!!

Yeah - saw that thread alright. Most info is 3 years old. Was wondering if anyone had recent experiences. Thanks though!

Saw a 4.5m one fitted recently - the company A on site were doing all bar that one opening - they said they couldn't stand over one of that dimension due to issues with hardware (hinges, rollers etc - their limit was 3.5m), so company B were doing that one alone. Company B do not instill me with confidence, having been on 3 sites with them already, and not one working out satisfactorily.

Do you really need 5m ?? - that is huge.

As mentioned on the site above, once the client walked in and saw the 4.5m ope, the first thing he thought was: 3.5m would have been plenty - as well as €1200 cheaper as well............

Thanks Galwaytt - that's great feedback. We are definitely not tied to the full 5m - especially if it will save us that much money going 3.5!! Would you mind pm'ing me Company A's details? Would like to give them a call. Thanks again!!

Hi Pygmie, would love to know how you got on with the Bi-fold doors if you ever got them. Reason is, we got a 4.1m Bi-fold back door around the same time and have had intermittent problems with it ever since. It took years to get the mechanism right with several sub-contracted maintenance folks from the company coming to our house and each blaming the previous one for their shoddy workmanship!

This summer we haven't used the door nearly as much as other years (you can guess why!) and when we go to start openning it up, typically by now, more issues!

We do love being able to open the entire wall up but have a real problem with the supplier and will continue to widely advise others from ever going near them.

BTW: Just for anyone else reading this, it is actually possible: friends of ours have a much wider door (must be over 6m at least) and have never had the issues we do.
