Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yeah Folks, sorry for the late reply. Stranorlar it was back at the time the railway was there. You can see carriages at the bottom of the Photo. Cheers:D
Any idea when the photo was taken? Im guessing the late 50's - early 60's

Just checking and St Marys NS doesn't appear to be in the photo in its current form anyway. The current St Marys was opened in 1958 so you are in. the right ball park with the early 50s I would think:D Thats the old school to the left of the church.

Lagg Beach (or Five Finger Strand) between Malin town and Malin Head.

Magheraroarty? Although its been years since I was out that way and didn't realise there was a lake on the spit

    Yep.

And there usually isn't, I think the higher spring tides fill the flats occasionally and it takes a while to drain away fully.

As an aside, and sorry for going slightly O/T, but it is a request for a photo and where better to ask than the Donegal Photo thread....

Anyone have a pic of the huge dune at the end of the Magheraroarty spit from back in the day? It's completely gone now, but it was an amazing sight back in the 80's and 90's - a proper puff of a climb, and nearly a cliff to throw yourself down on the north side. I've tried googling, but can only find pictures of the dunes as a whole, and I don't seem to have any pictures myself (thought it would be there forever!)

I wonder if it'll build up again in another 30 years?

Anyone know where this is in Donegal?
Legitimate question, I found it online and not exactly sure myself!

It's looking towards Glenveagh but not sure exactly where, is that a lake in the foreground ( Lough Fern? )

Well done! South West of Lough Fern, it's Lough Akibbon, looking across to Gartan Graveyard, with the top of Errigal peeking up just left of centre. This is a similar shot without the snow.

I thought the lake was a big field covered in snow :o

:) Well, it was used for soccer and as a race track for quads that winter. It was frozen solid!

Whereabouts is that? Looks gorgeous (in an area that ONLY has gorgeous beaches!!)

Ah..... found it, I think.... is it on the way from the carpark, out along the boardwalk?

Park at Ards Friary and take the path north along side the water. You can go down onto the beach and on over to Ards Forest Park.

Haven't a clue where it is but I'm curious about the wooden (?) slats. What are they for?

That is here outside Ardara - https://goo.gl/maps/1ghou6waXBv62N6J7

Think those slats are to stop slipping on the slip

It is indeed, a nice view the other direction but that would have been too easy...

If anyone else fancies adding a picture, work away as I can't think of one now that would be a challenge.
