Saw something pretty cool online yesterday, while looking at cinema listings for which chick-flick I was going to last night with She Who Must Be Obeyed..... ended up seeing Love is All You Need by the way, not sh1te but not Olympus Has Fallen....

    Anyway, I digress....
I saw this service offered by Showtime Cinema in Ashbourne,
    http://www.showtimecinemas.ie/article.php?sec=NEWS&_aid=2109
Basically, they rent out the screens, at an hour a session, and you can play the 360 or PS3 on the big screen!
Not sure if this has come up before but it's pretty cool.
Imagine it, Deathsmiles across a movie screen with you in control!
Or bring G-Darius along, and play it on the PS3!
Of course, there's plenty of current releases that are going to look well but for A&R purposes I imagine there are plenty that folk could play up there that's be of interest.
    Now, the sticking points....
It's only the PS3 and 360 so far that can be used, so that Famicom will have to stay at home.
Also, not sure what the image quality is, they don't indicate if stuff is projected in HD, or how an SD source is going to look, if one could hook up a Snes or MD it might look awful.
And, finally, the sessions are €100 per hour!
That said, for a Christmas Beers, and if there were more consoles usable, and if they looked pretty good, and we got 14 of us to go in together, it'd be around €30 per person for 4 hours......
Just throwing it out there, and after the time is up, back to mine or something....

Anywho, it's rare enough that something really interesting pops up, and I think this qualifies.
Not sure if it's already been posted.

    What y'all think anyway?

If someone brought a Jtagged 360 along, you could use the emulators on it for the older systems

Hmm, might be a problem getting a cinema screen into tate mode!

But it would be interesting, Cave Shmups, SMW, Raiden DX, Sega Rally, tons of cool prospects!

If you picked the right games this could be a great idea.

Saturn bomberman, a multitap, 8 controllers and a cinema screen would be an insane amount of fun.

if only you still had that steel battallion controller...;)
yeah I'm up for this (provisionally !).
I'd love to see some gauntlet/gauntlet legends action on a big screen ;)

Well, there'd need to be some organisation and someone to hold the money, as this would be expensive overall.
Also, a timetable of what games were going to be played and some agreement, no sense in Sparks spending good money and getting no Boulder Dash action, that is if that is what he wanted, same goes for everyone else.
Hopefully we'd come to some consensus ahead of time of what games would be played, multiplayer would, however, seem to make the most sense, so Bomberman, Gauntlet, Mario Kart.... Goldeneye for Retr0.....

Street Fighter 4 on 360 aswell. I would be interested in this anyway.....might need someplace to stay though. A pantry would suffice!

What you really need is a game that would truly benefit from the big screen treatment and look natural at that kind of size.

Which is why I want to play 4 player 2600 Warlords on it.

So, no Legend of the Dragoon then?

    Don't even joke about that.

If we were to do this we could also insist on a bit of cosplay?
Or would that alienate too many?
Anywho, we can revisit this later in the year.

Balls to that! , I dont look enough like a character to do it without too much hassle..
(unless 'Tubby Jesus' was a character in some obscure jap game , in which case I'll throw on a bedsheet over my clothes and job-done :))

I'll drop them am email and see what the story is.
We'll see what consoles are going to work and what isnt the.
Also, how to wire a retro console into a hdmi setup!
    Fun fun fun!
The promise of giant screen Snes and MD action is all kinds of awesome.
What would people like to play on a cinema screen anyway?
Let's get an idea what people are looking for.
This will require a certain financial commitment from those going too.
It's discussed earlier in this thread.

I'd say anything that can use a wireless remote with decent range, and can be plugged into a HDMI port will probably work.

They probably have a VGA in too. If so then we could get older consoles going with the help of a scaler.

Controllers would be an issue though!

    Scanline generator as well??

Somehow I don't think Wii games are going to work, though the idea of giant House of the Dead 2 & 3 is compelling!
If it's wireless controllers then we're stuck, will people be happy with current gen games? ?
There is a hdmi adaptor for composite and rgb devices, and the mentioned the DC via the vga will also work.
Not sure of the proximity of the players to the consoles although the range of ps3 and 360 controllers isn't that far, we might be able to come up with a solution.

It would be in the cinema in Ashbourne, not to far from me, 10 minutes or so, meaning we can continue the fun in my place after

Two IR sources set up below the screen and you're laughing.

(I dunno if I'm alone on this, but I prefer House of the Dead Overkill!)
