Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Looking forward to this season. I think we will see a much better attacking unit than last. However, I this season could be a little bit about rebuilding as the team adapts to the loss of Ronaldo. I also think we are short 1 world class player who will give us that spark in the tight games and I think that player needs to be an attacking mid/winger.

Mmm.... Love that new mega-thread smell!

Big season from Berbatov this year. Its on the front page so if it doesnt work out then everyone will see.

For anyone who's old enough think back to the start of the premiership and the fact that we are even saying this is remarkable.

    SAF = best ever!

do you really see liverpool as your biggest rivals for the title this year?

I refer you to my post on why I think Chelsea will do it this year

absolutley spot f*cking on! i think we need to figure out cloning asap, the day he finally decides to pack it in due to health or otherwise will be a huge shock to the system for many many people!

im not saying they will be our ONLY rivals, but they will be one of them, i think this is going to be the most hotly contested season thus far if i am being honest!

Your post did nothing to assure people that Chelsea aren't an ageing squad, with 3 or 4 players who need two or three more seasons to become premier league winning players, as much as it pains me to say it Liverpool will be the main threat this season.

Well my first season as a fan was 91/92 when i was 5/6 so I've only ever known SAF to be our manager. For me he is Utd and I just cannot comprehend what it will be like without him. BUT, hes still hungry and shows no sign of leaving :D

His legacy won't give the players the hairdryer treatment at half time when they're 1-0 down will it?

There are only 140 odd posts in it like!:)

It would be nice for Michael Owen to win a first title alright, that said, it would be nice to see him scoring over 15 goals in the season. Still not sure about him but we should have a pretty good idea this time next month! Do ye reckon Berba and Owen to be both starting? It just seems they are both poachers, contrary to Rooney anyway

Berbatov seems to be getting less poachy, well against Bayern he came deep a lot, in fact so did Owen.

yeah we definitely shouldn't play Rooney, imo we should sell him. it's not like he's our best player or anything...oh wait

Big season from Nani coming up. Along with Valencia.

As in rooney will work a lot more:rolleyes: I wasn't implying Rooney wouldnt start! I was merely asking the question, will it be the case that Berba AND Owen will start together up front?

Now the season is almost here I'm happy enough for the football to start and we will know where we are. I am encouraged to see some nice football in pre season, to hear fergie mention changes to the style of play and setting targets for players already.

If a new signing is made I won't complain but at this stage I'm not concerned about the squad.

what the hell is it with utd and strikers

    http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/91880/Exclusive-Fergie-Turkish-delight/
MANCHESTER United are hoping to snap up highly-rated Turkish striker Sercan Yildirm.

Sir Alex Ferguson has been alerted to the 19-year-old Bursaspor forward by his European scouts and is preparing a £3.5m bid.

Yildirm has already played for his country and Ferguson believes his potential is worth gambling on, just as he did with Cristiano Ronaldo and Anderson.

Meanwhile, Sir Alex has set United a target of 100 goals in the coming season despite the loss of Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez.

They hit 41 goals between them as United scored 119 in 66 games in all competitions last season. The previous season the pair accounted for 61 of United’s 110-goal total.

Fergie said: “Usually you look to score about 100 goals in all competitions.

“Dimitar Berbatov has had a season to settle in and he can get us more than 20 goals.

“Wayne Rooney is capable of scoring 18 or more and if Michael Owen can stay fit and plays 25 or more games, I think he will get 15 goals.”

Berbatov seems to be getting less poachy, well against Bayern he came deep a lot, in fact so did Owen.

The midfield was incapable of supplying them against Bayern, so they had to drop deep to get the ball at all.

Speaking of targets for players, where will the goals come from?
I am expecting Rooney to score 20, Owen 15, Berba 15, Macheda and Wellbeck maybe 10 between them. We know Vidic will score a few headers and O'Shea will score 1 into the Kop end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where will the rest come from?

the main part of that interview was Fergie saying players like Giggs, Scholes and Beckham used to guarantee goals from midfield, which has dried up in recent years. So surely signing a goalscorer midfielder is the solution, as opposed to another striker...

Dimitar Berbatov has had a season to settle in and he can get us more than 20 goals

No pressure there than! Sounds like SAF, like the rest of us, wants to get his 31million£'s worth, finally!

exactly a goal scoring MF is what we're crying out for

Id love to see ando go forward more often next season,I believe with his powerful running and an eye for the pass he'll create chance's for the forwards and maybe even score a few

    He can certainly create chances.

I would like to see how Rooney gets on playing from the middle consistently and how berba gets on next season. I really believe they will be able to make up for some of the things we lost when Ronaldo leff once the team settles into the new season.

A goal scoring midfielder would be great but I don't see us getting one this summer.
