Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Buy it off richer sounds and pay in sterling and you'll get a better deal.
Prob get 6 year warranty and free delivery too.

I'd prefer to shop local for the time being as much as I can. This TV comes with a 5 year warranty from Sony anyway so I wouldn't worry too much :pac:

Spotted my local Expert has the 2019 model 65” Bravia OLED yesterday for around €2,200 also.

Was one of the best looking displays in-store IMO.

My parents have always bought Sony TVs. Can't be beat.

I'll be getting IPTV set up on this one - can't wait!

Just a note, friend of mine recently bought a Sony. The screen sharing program - all-share requires a subscription. If you are an iPhone user and want to cast/throw/airplay content to the telly you'll have to watch ads in advance or pay a subscription.

https://www.did.ie/lg-cx-65-4k-ultra-hd-oled-smart-tv-black-oled65cx5lb-oled65cx5lb-prd The sony is a great tv, but for the new consoles the lg supports 4k 120fps through all 4 hdmi inputs. This is what i'll be buying. I haven't checked other sites for cheaper prices yet.

Bonkers to me that you'd pay over 2 grand on a TV but then use IPTV (unless you mean Netflix/Prime/etc)

FWIW, Sony's 5 year warranty is useless IMHO.

I bought a Sony TV from Amazon and got the 5 year warranty with documentation etc. TV went faulty after 4 years and Sony refused to honour it as I purchased from Amazon. No explanation other than that.

I used to be a lifelong Sony TV customer but not anymore.

I know you are not buying from Amazon, just offering my 2c.

Did you buy from Amazon or a market place seller? If not sold or full filled by Amazon you could be buying anything from anyone, Amazon market place isn't well regulated, and most likely bought a gray import not supposed to be sold to this country.

It was from Amazon, not a market place Seller.

Did you try to contacting Amazon directly ? I had an issue once with a carbon monoxide sensor, with a 10 year warranty. 3 years into owning it, it kept going into a reboot loop causing the alarm to beep as it initialised. Amazon refunded me the original price as it was no longer available and they told me to ship the faulty one to them.

I once bought a bottle of whiskey on Amazon.. there was a mix up, and I received a cement mixer.

They were cool about it, gave me a refund, and told me to keep the cement mixer.

Yes, I contacted Amazon and got a refund - well, a credit to my account which I was very grateful for.

I was disgusted by Sony's evading their responsibility. I bought another TV from Amazon to replace the faulty Sony. Needless to say, it wasn't a Sony.

Most phones have an inbuilt function for screen-sharing and don't need an app.
Sony also don't produce an app called All Share.
What app is your friend using?

Sounds like the extended warranty was from Amazon and not Sony.

No, it was a Sony warranty.

I applied to Sony after I purchased the TV and received documentation from them detailing the warranty etc. When the TV went faulty, they messed me around for 2 weeks with resetting the TV etc before telling me they would not honour the warranty.

I contacted Amazon, told them my story and they gave me a full refund including the return postage cost.

Won't be buying another Sony TV.

The companies always give terrible conversion rates if they let you pay in your currency. For low value items it can be a Euro extra, for a TV it's a lot.

I think all the the oled panels are made by LG ??
Used to be the the case anyway.

and what does that optional warranty provide that isn't already governed by the regular warranty?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,707 ✭✭✭branners69

I cant believe OLED suffer from screen burn. I still have a Pioneer plasma which is nearly 15 years old which had the same issue.

I am interested in upgrading to OLED but dont want the screen burn hassle, especially as it isnt covered by the guarantee!!

You don't have to buy the extra warranty, as it already has a 5 year. Yes it is robbery but you don't need it. don't worry about it.

There may be issues with some features on the LG tv's when running 4k 120fps.
    Hopefully LG find a fix

Yeah that's true. that's one of the reasons i've changed my mind about buying the LG, also peak brightness is not great.

Yea its balls but does it really happen ?
I think i seen one guy on a forum that had one of the first ones and he only watched cricket/sky news and his was in bits from the bannors.

If you appreciate a good picture an OLED is hard to beat!
+ the panels are so thin if you want to wall mount

Not sure I follow the reasoning here?

Are you saying that someone willing to drop 2k should be able to afford Sky or Virgin?

Or are you saying that IPTV isn't able to maximise the potential of a super expensive TV?

A little from point A, but mainly point B.

Even the "best" services are limited to 1080p at 50fps and they're often running at a low bitrate to remain somewhat stable.

    Only LG and samsung.

Do you need to change the money in your revolut account first to stg?
I take it, if you leave it in euro, it won't auto convert to stg and you'll be fleeced by amazon?
Is there much of a difference?

I can speak from experience and they do suffer screen burn .

Had a LG oled which had to go back becasuse of it . In fairness to LG, they covered the price of a new tv .

I miss the oled picture though, watching football was so clear . Especially in HDR with prime when they were showing the matches last xmas.

With Revolut it will take from a balance of a currency if you have it. If you don't, it'll convert for you automatically. So if you're using Revolut on UK sites, always pay in sterling.

Cheers, thought you had to convert to stg on your revolut card first, didn't realise it was automatic, very handy. So I assume its the stg rate and a charge too but still cheaper than Amazon

The lack of a 7day Program guide on the Satellite stations is a real pain for all of models of this brand of TV.

All it shows is now and next, you have to schedule recordings the old school VCR way and it won't update if there is a change in programming at the TV station....

same - I have an OLED LG Tv with horrendous screen burn. I babied the TV and it still got severe burn. Red color shows it up most of all. I tried to get assistance from LG on it, and they were useless. I also couldn't find my receipt from Powercity, so I'm completely stuck. I wouldn't go OLED again.

@Barr - if you have any info/advice on how you got the issue resolved please send it my way !

    What model?

The older ones had worse burn-in than newer I have read.

After using OLED other screens look crap so not going back :)

I've actually just now fired mails off to LG and Powercity to see can I have it sorted.

It is an OLED55B7V - bought 1st of November 2017

Link to a pic of it showing just red

Its actually alot worse in person. I do agree the picture from the OLED is fantastic, but sadly it is fleeting.

It's pretty obvious you had static images on that screen...
