How much resources did you think the 3rd Reich squandered in order for the Hololcaust?
It seems really stupid when in 1944 the activity was stepped up for this horror to happen. Soldiers kept away from the front line to do guard duty instead of fighting on the front where they were badly needed yet it was to continue, did the slave labour (ie secret weaponds) out weight the resources spent on the Holocaust?

Thing you've got to be aware of is that Hitler was not a logical being.

He was completely deluded until the end that he was going to win the war. So to him diverting resources to the final solution was a nessaccary step

Sorry to say - virtually none.

On the TV series The world at war there was a bit about ~ 110 Germans and maybe ~300 lithuanians(?) perhaps 500 in total - operating an Extermination camp (not a concentration camp where people are kept alive) and between them the killed nearly a million people. Also there was soap and hair (U boat slipper insulation) Gold teeth, confiscated property etc coming back.

Slave labour in the concentration camps not that effective - the workers did shoddy work etc. - also they were treated so badly that could not do much physical work. - Unfortunatley Mr Speer was too efficient otherwise the whole thing might collapsed earlier.

BTW: the French resistance tied down maybe 5,000 German troops. Not too different to the daily death rate on the Eastern front.

From an intellectual standpoint, there was a waste of brain power resources.
Once instance is the Jewish scientists who fled the Nazi regime in the 30s.
Another instance comes from this month's Scientific America. Its an article about the Curta, a mechanical pocket calculator, whose inventor was sent to the camps. He had been previously been owner/designer of an optics factory, making high quality gunsights for tanks.
He survied the war, but the army were left with a poorer grade targetting mechanism.
To fight a war, a regime needs all resources marshalling for victory, not shooting its self in the foot.
