Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

11 games in a row with one goal or less scored. Will we break that duck tonight.

They are more likely to score 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,303 ✭✭✭✭Father Hernandez

Good man Martial, great for confidence regardless of a penalty or not

Williams though, superb. Exactly what we need from a wing back that side of the pitch. Good man

Very very luck there. Partizan looked well on top. Hopefully that changes the momentum of the game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,934 ✭✭✭stesaurus

I must be watching a different game. Utd looked very comfortable apart from a 5 minute spell for Partizan.
They haven't been great going forward but I wouldn't say against the run of play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

5/10 minute period where partizan were on top but I was surprised with how comfortable we were up to that point. 3 points here would be a very good result all things considered.

How many times have we taken the lead to be pegged back later in the game this season though?

Wouldn't go that far, they've pressed hard and gotten a good couple of bounces. Think the back 3 have done well but Jones is the only one showing any ambition to really push out. Rojo needs to push up on the left to help Williams and the midfield a bit more when on that side.

Martial could also do with getting his head out of his arse.

  • What's comfortable? Creating one clear cut chance and doing **** all with the ball for 40 odd minutes against a ****e Europa League side

It was ****e and a performance I have watched time and time again under Ole

We were lucky to not got two down once they actually attacked us

Probably will, yeah. Ole to instruct them to sit back now for the second half, if our latest game is anything to go by.

    Indeed

This "comfortable" thing is becoming tiring.

Been comfortable with little to no pressure in specific areas.

Then losing it as soon as it moves into the final 3rd.

It's comfortable in that section as that's where the opposition allow it to be.

It's not something to be proud about

Like? He's pushed up and gotten caught once or twice but is that not the point of having 3 at the back, to cover for a bit of ambition from one of them?

I swear people are watching him hoping he makes the smallest mistake so they can come here and post about it.

    Stop talking nonsense.

    Huge fan of Phil.

He's making simple mistakes tonight causing us problems.

Not sure what you were expecting? This is a typical Utd away European performance going back probably the last 20 years

Starting to think you are Phil Jones.

There were 3 or 4 times in that half that he cut out them attacking in dangerous areas. He was the one demanding the ball at the back and willing to play it out. It was him playing it out (though perhaps fortuitously on this occasion) that began the buildup to the goal from a position where both he and Romero were under pressure.

But sure, Phil Jones, chuckle brother lolz.

Looked like Phil Jones won that ball to me, unlucky.

Ole's in game management is so poor. Playing the wingbacks high and pushing their most influential attacking threats back and denying them width was a great plan but in the second half he resorted to type and dropped back losing the initiative.
We played the occasion but we can't do that every game, our record this season against the big teams is ok but it's the other games that we are struggling in.

That's not what happened though. Yes, Ole came up with a very good plan for the match but rather than deciding to sit-back, Klopp counter acted Ole's plan by the 2nd half. Klopp pushed Lalana forward and was playing 4-2-4 or 2-4-4 in possession. To overload our back 3 and force Young/AWB back. Very aggressive from Klopp and we had plenty of chances to expose that on the counter.
I really don't critise Ole for the second half that much at all. It was a very good change from Klopp.

Not denying that we didn't sit back a bit too much either. Human nature, you're under pressure and you retreat. But I would put that more on the players than instructions from Ole. There were lads hoofing the ball aimlessly to relieve pressure. Players need to be better than that.

Would completely agree that we're better set up against bigger teams vs teams that will let us have possession. That has been obvious for some time. Without a creative midfielder/10 and 9 who can also make things happen in possession, this will continue to be the case. We're a pretty decent team on the break, we'll pose a danger to teams that have most of the ball.

Back to 4-2-3-1 and Rashford wide left despite there not being another "striker" on the pitch. Lesson learned Ole!

Edit: Actually I'd drop him and play Gomes instead.

    Williams the only positive.

    Wouldn't say very poor personally.

Thought he was quite average, hostile atmosphere so wouldn't be too easy.

Like to see more of him.
