That was a really good par on 15 which is a bit of a beast of a hole, no birdies at all today, and great birdie attempt from off green on 16. Playing well today. Be nice if a bit of wind brewed up for the afternoon starters!

Brilliant round today by the look if it, bogey free and definitely will leave her in a much higher position at the end of Day 2. A bit of wind would be nice alright!

And kudos to Lauren Walsh too - 4 for the back nine with birdie birdie finish to get to -1. Should be good for the cut. Fantastic!

Scores not all that low for late starters, Nelly Korda +2 for the say! -5 going to be well up there whatever happens. Gonna be a fun weekend!

Moving day today but standing still with level par 72. Didn't show very much of her on the live broadcast so not sure how she played. Just 4 off the lead, but a very congested leaderboard ahead of her so need something a bit special tomorrow to get into contention probably.

Let’s hope she can get the up and down on 1 and then knock a couple of early birdies in.

Lads on sky saying she'd tapped in for par on 1 but, alas, it was for 5. Bogey-bogey start, chance gone already realistically, such a shame.

  • Registered Users Posts: 305 ✭✭Scrabbel

That’s disappointing alright. Birdie-bogey just now so still -3.

Tied 13th in the end. Not bad at all considering she didn't really have it on the weekend.

That shank from Madsen on the last was tough to watch.

Says it all as to how far she’s come that T13 in a major is just OK.

$85k in prize money, she'll hit the million this season on current form. Likely to be runner up in rookie of the year to Patty Tavatanakit.

Surely a cert for a Solheim wildcard in tomorrow's announcement.

Shes going to overtake Mel Reid on the world rankings when they update on Tuesday so surely as the highest world ranked player not already qualified she's a shoe in to make the team

Catching up on highlights, that was tough on the dane last hole. Not sure did that cost her automatic Solheim cup spot as well? Sweating now on a captain's pick. Maguire will be going as one of the form picks so I'd be hoping to see her in the thick of the action over there, right from opening 4somes. Not sure who I'd partner her with, nordquist would be good, or Pedersen.

Leona Maguire becomes the first Irish Solheim Cup player. No more than she deserves given her recent form.

Superb achievement from Leona in what is essentially her rookie season still. What a great career progression she has been on. Hopefully performs well over in the solheim cup and then soon gets her first win.

Highest ranked European on LPGA season rankings - it was nailed on for a while. Brilliant achievement in first full season. Really looking forward to Curtis, Solheim and Ryder Cups.

Leona is up to 43rd in the world rankings and remains in 8th place on LPGA race to CME Globe.

Only just saw that the Solheim singles are on Monday because of Labor Day weekend. Thankfully not teeing off until 5pm our time.

Coming back here from the Solheim Thread. What a debut. We all knew here her graph was towards superstardom. Best rookie performance ever in the Solheim by any player, on US soil with about 50-100 European supporters; just amazing!

    Leona. Just class.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,847 ✭✭✭dball

did i hear she has joined an elite group of only 4 EU players to score 4.5 points - or was it only 4 rookies to score 4.5 points - either way its a class act.

cemented her place on the international platform among all the players.

It's the highest score for any rookie - either Europe or USA.

It's the joint second highest score for any player any time. The highest was 5 points from Caroline Hedwall in 2013.

A truely outstanding debut. We have a legit superstar in the making here, although anyone who watched her progression would have known a strong showing was likely. All the same, never has a rookie played like that before in team golf.

The commentary spoke of how she was partnered with Reid to guide her. She carried Reid all the way and demolished Kupcho in singles.

    A match play beast.

Hopefully this will be a boost to her confidence and break into winners circle on the LPGA albeit no Asian ladies at the Solheim and they dominate the Ladies game

No doubt she will have really made it when she appears on Tubridy Tonight at some point in the next week or two

    Brilliant performance by Leona. Superstar.

    Super stuff by her.

Hopefully her own career kicks on now

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Still 7 events left on the LPGA, including the end of season tour championship, so a lot left to play for. Not entered for next week in Portland but that still leaves 6 potential opportunities to land that first tour victory. Would be a way to cap a remarkable extended rookie season.

-6 after 14 holes at the Pelican Championship and tied for the lead with Sei Young Kim

She seems to be getting plenty of TV time on Sky Sports
