Risk assement team from online casino snooping

I use a few of the casinos and poker sites on-line and have had the usual security checks to get my winnings out. Never really thought much of it.

The other day I noticed my LinkedIn profile had been checked out by a person working in a burger restaurant in Gibraltar. Thinking this was strange I contacted the casino company I suspected such a look-up had occurred. I initially suspected a member of staff got nosey and looked me up or worse that maybe the mentioned me in the burger place and member of staff there looked me up.

So initially the company said it had no connection to this person who looked me up. Then minutes after my e-mail the user on LinkedIn changed their name. This pretty much guaranteed the connection to me.

So I get an e-mail to day saying. Yes it was their company and that the Risk Team had done the check!

It turns out they set-up a fake LinkedIn profile and checked me out. The reason they use fake ones is so the agents don't get bothered. I find this deeply intrusive that a thing I do as entertainment is snooping on me in business. I know the profile is public for business purposes and as such accessible to all but why are they checking it?

That is on top of the fact they aren't abiding by rules of use by LinkedIn.

    Does this bother anybody else?

No, sounds standard enough. Person withdraws winnings, company checks them out to see are they a risk to figure out should they put a max bet on your account. LinkedIn is public, you know that so what is wrong with checking that. It's not like they are going to your home checking your bins for info.

If you had a big win with any Irish bookie your account would be closed pending an investigation. This risk assesment thing is just a different way of doing it.

Linked in is not actually public information. You have to join and agree legitimate use of the data.

What also is a little disturbing is a state senate assistant also check my records the day before which seemed strange too. It may seem paranoid but strange behaviour.

I have been a member for well over a year with no significant wins above my normal behaviour. I also won a trip from the same company over a year ago which they paid for. So they certainly know who I am already.

They are acting very cagy about my enquires and not telling me why they did this other than "we do it for security reasons". I have asked for all information they have stored on me to see what they are exactly doing.

Sounds a bit dodgy. I think I would just leave and take my business elsewhere tbh. Almost sounds like borderline harassment.

I didn't know LinkedIn wasn't public so that's why my opinion has changed.
