Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just got an email with the code LIDL25 to get €25 off your first €50 LIDL shop with Buymie (shopping delivery app). Said it's unique but it doesn't look it

Prices seem the same as in store and delivery is €4 so not sure how they're able to do this. Might add on a bunch a the end

I'm having problems inserting postcode when signing up on website
I insert D02 AF30 and it says invalid.
    Edit: Insert Dublin 2 works.

Sounds like a fantastic offer if genuine

erm... probably not a good idea to stick up your exact postcode on a public website forum??

Yeah, the poster will be very easy to track down in such a remote place as D2, especially without knowing their real name and what they look like and their fecking gender

Some poor sap I take it collects shopping for four quid a shout?

Maybe they have a deal with the store for the first be order?

The postcode leads directly to a single small building.

Not exactly difficult to track down.

Backed by Enterprise Ireland it says in the app.

Sounds like a bit of a bum deal for the delivery folk if you ask me. Also how long would my chicken be sitting in the back of someone's car?

Who's paying them the 8 Euro?

How far will they deliver from the nearest Lidl?

Old article so don't know if prices correct:

    https://www.irishtimes.com/business/innovation/buymie-gets-your-groceries-to-you-when-you-need-them-1.3023528

For a premium fee of €6.99, a customer can have groceries within an hour. This drops to €4.99 for two hours and to €3.99 for three hours. On top of the delivery charge, shoppers pay a commission of 14.75 per cent on the value of their basket.

    Seems rather steep.

No reference to this on their website, but it did only list 'delivery fees'

Might have some success in the uk (but who knows with brexit) but will fall flat on its face here in Ireland.

I have used them a couple of times when I was stuck and needed something quickly.

They are good, they call you if they can't find what you ordered because it's out of stock etc.

The prices are higher than in-store (due to the mark up discussed above) and than there is an additional fee depending on how quick you want it.

It' not for regular shopping but good if you are stuck and don't want or can leave the house.

If you can get 25€ of a 50€ shop than it's a good bargain even with the markup.

You can look up anyone’s postcode on the eircode website so it’s not a secret

You can look up anyone's phone number in the phone book (or at least used to), but I'm not going to put mine up for all to see.

Anyway if the postcode was for a general building it's not an issue

Pushed the button and my basket was €58, which jumped to €73 after delivery and processing! .. the €25 worked and brought it down to €48 .. so €10 off I guess, was pretty miffed at the markup so didn't tip .. now I feel bad

Very prompt with the delivery times and they did ring to say one of the items wasn't available, I said to leave it but it doesn't look like it was taken off the bill. Might be handled through app credit, I'm not sure

Thanks for this link, it's an interesting proposition for job seekers. I see that it's guaranteed hourly rate, so what happens if no-one orders, do you get your 8 euro doing nothing?

It's delivered from a normal joe soap's vehicle though right? I don't really like the idea of frozen / chilled food sitting in the boot or backseat of someone else's car for what could be hours.
How would hygiene or cleanliness be guaranteed? Doesn't appeal to me.

Well they give an option for delivery times, including within the hour, but I don't think it's designed for fish fingers really.

When he arrived he had a zipped up cooler box with all the refrigerated stuff in it, looked like it was issued to him. Plus they also seem to go straight from the store to you so much like a grocery run you'd do yourself

It's the not knowing how much is about to be added on at the end that annoys me

Tried there, am near city centre, two lidl's within 10/15 minutes walk and they don't show up for delivery but Tesco does.

I was also just in Tesco so I looked up products I bought, it's actually 18.2% dearer on there which is huge.
I also got a special offer, 3 for 2, and it's not on there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 512 ✭✭✭dvdman1

What about the car insurance for the shoppers, they would need to add commercial use or they won't be covered on the deliveries.

No here either - it'd feel weird. They have to be the soundest delivery fellas too - out our way at least.

Why would you tip the tesco delivery driver? Don’t mind the likes of takeaway drivers as most work for tips, but Tesco drivers are paid a wage to deliver your groceries. While they are all sound I wouldn’t even think about tipping them.

    Always.

Never do. I'm on a monthly delivery saver service. Don't see why I should tip if I'm paying a set amount a month.

Must be just me so, also I give my postman 50 quid at Xmas as a thank you for his service.

Gifts for post man/woman at Christmas is a bit different imo than tipping a delivery driver. I think it's that the post is a service that you don't pay for per delivery while shopping is a service you pay for...

I have used this twice now and find it great if your stuck or just really don't want to go after work.
Delivery people are supper friendly, app is well designed you get a notification when they start your shopping they call you if they don't have an item, then you get a notification when they are leaving the store and when they arrive at your house.
Freezer bags seem to store all foods and is very professional.
Its slightly more expensive but some days its worth it to not spend an hour doing it yourself.

I second what has just been said. We have used the service about half a dozen times without issue.

Just tried them for the first time today, delivery will be between 20.00 and 21.00 this evening. No calls so far......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,079 ✭✭✭dancingqueen

They will only call you if they have to - i.e. if there is an item out stock and to offer you a replacement. You'll get a notification when they start to shop for you, through the app. They likely won't do your shop til between 7 and 8 if your delivery is between 8 and 9.

How does this actually work, like does the driver literally go into a Lidl and do your shop for you or is it done out of Lidls distribution centre the way Tesco do their online deliveries? If its the driver doing the shop in your local Lidl for you its hard to see how there is any profit in the €4 delivery charge.

Your shopper is directed to the appropriate store nearest to you and does the shopping there.

You get a notification once s/he starts shopping , is done and is in front of your door.

Calls are only made in case of substitutes or non availability.

Also please remember they also charge a service charge, platform fee and payment fee in addition to the deliver fee.

So that is where they will attempt to do the profit plus the fact that they have a deal with Lidl after they shared data with them about the shopping habits before the deal.

ah right, now it makes more sense. Thought there had to be something more than just the €4 delivery. Sounds like by the time you've paid all the other charges it would cost €8-10

It depends on your basket and what shop you use, at Lidl you can get a discount if you spend a certain amount.

But yes calculate about 12% extra.

It is a great service if you can’t leave the house and need thing within an hour or two. But with SuperValu same day delivery if ordered before 1200 it does not always make sense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,688 ✭✭✭✭Muahahaha

Do Supervalue do free delivery if you order before 12pm or something? I know Tesco allow you to book specific time slots and it can range from €7.50 a delivery down to a bargain €3 which is great for someone to do all your shopping and deliver it too. I've used it the odd time when they've sent me a €15 off a €70 spend, its a great way of stocking up lots of stuff and saving a few quid. Only thing you've to watch out for is the offer expiry dates and your delivery date, the products have to be psychically delivered within the offer expiry date or you wont get the offer price.
