Searching for a relative

    I have a great aunt that appears in the 1911 census but she completely disappears afterwards. There's no sign of a marriage, births of children or a death record. I'm on ancestry and I've done a DNA test but still no sign of her.

    Her sister - my grandmother- said that she left home and they never heard from her again. They believed she had gone to Australia but that might not be true.

    Any hints or tips on where I could start my search?

    If you haven't found death/marriage in Ireland, it's most likely she emigrated.

    Look up the Passenger lists - on Ancestry.com or Findmypast. There are some free websites for arrivals e.g. New York e.g. Ellis Island records https://bit.ly/2q44Gsr

    You can search the US census up to 1940; if her surname is sufficiently unusual you may find her that way.

    She may turn up in the The US Social Security Death Index - this sometimes gives date of birth and parents' names.

    If she ended up in Australia have a look at the Australian records http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/fact-sheets/fs227.aspx

    There's also access Australian newspapers on Trove https://bit.ly/2Gxnvus - who knows she might turn up there.

    You could also try her on the 1939 Register in the UK, which is on Findmypast too.

    It is also possible that her given name on the 1911 census was not her official name, and that she was recorded as something else in some BMD record.
