    It gets boring very quickly.

It hasnt got the legs of elite but for 60/70hrs i enjoyed NMS.

NMS is a brilliant game, less grindy than ED but still very good.

Flying is awful but there is a mod for that :)

Fleet carriers delayed till Q2 next year.

Frontier are saying that they are going to re focus development to squash long term bugs and work on stability. The updates they say will be large and every 3/4 months. Pre update betas are making a comeback.

Hard to know how this will pan out but i must say givin the track record im not sure they will ever get on top of the bugs. The gap in content will be quite large by the time fleet carriers come out also, never mind the end of next year update. They must be confident that players will come back with the update end of next year.

I was personally lookin forward to earning a fleet carrier when they came, having that delayed means ive no reason to play till middle of next year which is a bit disappointing. Recently a friend got access to a PC capable of running the game and ive givin him my old HOTAS,reset my commamder on PC in preperation but guess we will delay that playthrough till next year now.

I really hope they nail all this but im just not sure. They cant seem to stick to a plan the last while.

Some of the bugs tho are several years old, R6Siege did this and the game did benefit but you had a gaunranteed content drop afterwards.

ED seems to have something coming and it better be more than Fleet Carriers.

Seems to be a reaction to an open letter they received from the community. If they get it right it can only be good for the game in the long run but as it stands I don't see myself coming back for a long time yet.

Fleet carriers finally have their release date in June. Content reveal live stream on April 2nd.

Not sure it's enough to get me back in just yet, will likely wait until the next paid expansion at this rate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭dreamers75

Guessing im not getting ED2 anytime soon :(

Sad that I can afford a Fleet Carrier on my own.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,578 ✭✭✭EoinHef

I've about the price of a carrier in assets but not cash, cant see myself going back for this update unless it's more than just carriers. Like what can we do with them?

There would have to be some compelling gameplay around them.

Will probably be around the paid expansion time I jump back in.

The next expansion has to be space legs or the game is done.

I play SC every now and then and being a space Deliveroo person is not as fun as it sounds.

Rather than space legs I would prefer (mentioned this above a few times).

Narrative, My own base (which I build by doing narrative driven missions), the ability to manage my base and grow it into a landable platform with services for other players.

Insert players into the economy and have that without me(or others) growing wheat there is no wheat.

With the end goal of having a nice base, that one day you can walk around (not me I hate space deliveroo)

So the Carrier is just a UI......ffs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,578 ✭✭✭EoinHef

I'd like to say I'm surprised but not really, they have a real problem getting good ideas to translate to good gameplay mechanics.

I'm sure there will be first carrier to Sag A* stories etc but anyone who has played the game a good bit would understand what a massive chore that would be despite sounding cool from the outside

Still the best space sim on the market by a good bit imo but for older players currently theres not much to do.

I'm hoping the paid update will offer more than the carriers offer. Hopefully they can offer something different to what we have seen lately

If you can team up you can make a billion a week from pure combat. Takes about 2 hours a night.

Wing Massacre missions and a agreed time each night to "turn" them in, the game doesnt care if you killed 70/70 and then share the mission with your team mates when you cash in.

You can stack missions vs the same faction from different factions so one player could complete 3 missions at the same time at 70m each. You cant stack FROM the same faction but you can stack VS the same one*

Its also good fun as the combat flying is amazing in this game.

Another bonus if you choose the right system you can earn rank for your Corvette or Cutter at masively increased rate.

*System needs to be in war or civil war with more than 3 Fed or Imp factions, also your actions in this system result in the removal of a faction :D The one poor faction you anniliahte is gonnabe stackable.

So after taking day or two and thinking about the update I reckon I'm excited but cautiously so.

Let's hope they can deliver on a compelling reason for players to walk around other than the novelty of walking around in elite dangerous.

The thought of combined arms fights on planets sounds amazing and I really hope they can make that work.

Imagine heading towards a planet where you know people are walking about, getting out of glide, spotting them and launching a few C4 PA volleys their way. Imagine how scary that would be as the player walking around as well:pac:

New SRV variants are a must imo, long overdue at this point anyway.

Any news on ray tracing? The newsletter said to theres a competition on at OCUK to win a PC. Sponsored by Intel and Nvidia. The Nvidia logo has a big RTX sticker beside it. The PC has a 2070S so it may just be that but when I saw it I thought they may have said something about ray tracing

The reality of it is that this is, more than likely, what is going to happen. I was distinctly underwhelmed when they brought out planetary landings, when I find out that it was pretty much the same scenario over and over.

That particular novelty wore off very fast.

Hard to tell, but according to the wiki they have 20 huge so I'd imagine they would have the firepower to take out undesirables.

I've reset my PC CMDR so I'm thinking of ways I could have a bit of fun with other players and there shiny new toys.

Not that I'd be able to do much in a cobra but not trying to do anything major, just a bit of fun.

Go to the starter systems in open play and fly around, they will find you.

Have a Reverb on the way and will be looking to get back into ED. I have horizons - is there anything after this I need?

Reverberating Cascade weapons are always a fun one. Very few people expect it, then suddenly their shields are gone until the module's repaired. Especially fun vs people with Prismatics.

Gonna jump on in a bit and murder some pirates, will find a system with massive payouts if anyone stuck for cash and wants to wing up.

So the first dev diary is out, found it very underwhelming.

Basically boils down to: Hey you can walk on planets, you can be the first to walk on a planet. Ships look really big when your planets. Something about scanning fauna so you can bring back data to sell.

Now it was titled exploration so maybe they just wanted to focus on that aspect for now. Seemingly they did an interview with polygonal well and walking around ships and space stations will not be in odysessy on release and is only something "they want to do" with no firm plans:(

Also looks like those ice planets that were ear marked for beyond will now be in the paid dlc.

God its hard to be to hopeful for this. Nothing they have said/done so far makes me excited for being able to walk on a planets never mind make it actually something i really want to do in a game about flying space ships.

Prismatic Shields, thats why you tolerate endure "join" The Empire and play the BGS. You can do it in 4 weeks if you follow a guide and play a specific way. Then buy loads of them and leave the faction never to return to the BGS.

Tale of woe?? Actually playing the BGS :D Reward prismatic shields, yes they are worth it.

I was so disappointed I donated money to get access to Star Citizen and also signed up for 3 months of Dual Universe. I won't write Elite Dangerous off just yet though. I will see what this new paid update brings to the game.

Not writing it off either,id agree its still the best space game out there.

Just not much to get excited about yet for me from what we have seen of Odyessy so far. That could easily change as we got more info though.

This was in my YouTube feed a while back. I watched this and really wished Elite had similar capabilities.

I have 2 ships in SC and it does "sound" cool and "looks" cool but its not a game not even close to being a game.

I find their additions in each update baffling tbh, work on core systems (MISSIONS) then add bobble feckin heads later.

I agree and I found lots of bugs myself when playing the "game". Still though, I know the parts I like and I like being able to walk around ship interiors, planet surfaces & space stations etc.

With 815 hours in Elite I can't say that I don't like the game, even now. I just wish Frontier would listen a bit more to what the community wants. Like they acted surprised people might like to use multicrew and actually use both SRV's on a planet surface. I only found out this wasn't possible the hard way. It seemed like a perfectly natural way to use it multicrew up until the point I realised it don't work like that! Thoughtless updates like this just really bugs me.

Now whatever about Star Citizen, I am finding that Dual Universe is starting to sink its hooks into me. I might be spending a bit of time with this game!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,558 ✭✭✭✭dreamers75

As the coop missions in ED work very well now (maybe too well currently sitting on 14 billion or thereabouts :D) i never understood the point of Multicrew in its present format.

ED adds were also baffling but for simply flying about its light years ahead of SC.

Thats exactly what I'm worried about in Odyssey, the only thing it will add is the ability to walk around. I want compelling things to do when on foot. I would like to log in at night and say "will I do a load of ground missions or stay in my ship?"

I want it to be good enough to make it worth doing over flying the ship,I know that's a tough ask givin how good the ships are in elite but that, imo,is what they need it to be. If not it will be just another neglected under used feature other than for screenshots.

Multicrew is a good example of that. Power play another, most players just gained the system to get power play rewards then ditched it,myself included. Good idea in principle but never iterated on and very basic implementation.

To me in SC the ships are the game from what I've played so far. There like digital porn. But SC totally lacks substance, pretty ship is no good if you can't get anything done in it. Bugs have stopped me really trying to get into that game,CTDs where progress was lost were just to frustrating for me.

That's an interesting way to put it - "digital porn" :) I think I'll play some Elite now! All I'm doing is out in the deep a bit, surface scavenging materials. But it's kind of fun/relaxing just zooming around in my SRV. I've been stocking up on materials last few times I've been playing. Not sure what I'll do next though

Ha ha,my CMDR is out from the bubble too collecting mats. Last few times I've been on ive been cruising round the same planet landing at different geological sites to farm mats.

Guess that must be what you do at a certain point. I was helping a friend out in Synuefe with a guardian beacon and just kept going.

Maybe hit up dreamers for a lend and buy a carrier?:D

ha! That is exactly what I'm doing. Roving around collecting mats, next time I login I fly for a bit, land and repeat. Best bit tonight is I found my first polonium.

    525325.jpg

These last few weeks have been my first time back in a while and does seem like everyone has a fleet carrier except me. I came out to find some rarer mats and there are fleet carriers everywhere. Kind of handy to dock at though!

I jump in for MEFs every now and again simply because I love flying my SRV :D

I eventually learned and nailed every one of the locations.

Then they started giving them away with missions cos players were whinging the grind was too hard.

Old video but this was how you used to have to get MEFs, this was one of my better runs but its also the easiest of the 3 stations. SRV needs more love.

EDIT the coop massaacre missions reward up to 70m and materials with every one, I was helping a load of new players so no need to scavenge materials any more easily done a 1000 missions and helped lads get Corvettes in less than a month ( i dont think it should be that easy but with smart location picking its exceptionally easy to get billions and a corvette in a 3 man wing). I grinded like **** to get mine :(
