Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    ZSNES scrub!

Begone with your lack of cycle accurate emulation!

Thou hasn't been given the moniker of an emulation casual.

Check the modified date on ZSnes in that screengrab, 2007 - that's the last time I installed a snes emulator :pac:

Smyths have loads of stock for click & collect now!

Was going to hold off given what Nintendo has said about replenishing stock but wasnt taking my chances this time after missing out on the NES.

Yeah loads up there. Each store has 15+ at the moment...

Just went ahead and ordered from Smyths and get my Dad to pick it up. Was going to try and get one in the States, but the US version looks damn ugly! I'll have to wait until Christmas when I'm home for the Euro version, but it looks much better! Worth the wait I think. Should be a fun Christmas :)

Looks like the console is going to be as receptive to custom game libraries as it's predecessor, so that'll make them even more interesting.

You 2 are lucky - my order got cancelled!

Shambles, they said that their head office left the online ordering open when it should have been closed.

Why are these things so bloody difficult.

Same here Scottish. Ordered from Ennis Road Limerick at about 2 this morning with 15+ available and got cancellation email just before 9 this morning. Pretty frustrating

Just picked up mine. There was maybe 6 left in GameStop. Wouldn't say many of them came in.

    It really is mini!

Still waiting for my preorder to be delivered...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭DinoRex

I think my pre-order is okay. They sent me a very garbled email with no subject line that went straight to my spam box.

    I pre-ordered back in June.

Same! Amazon says it's waiting to be dispatched... ordered it back when orders first went live (Think that was June?)

Damn should have ordered, those scalpers make me sick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭DinoRex

Picked mine up over lunch with no problems.

Sheesh... those queues for FIFA 18 are insane, luckily I could skip it as they had a section of the sales counter just for click and collect.

I was getting jeered by the FIFA crowd when I picked up mine last night :D

God I just don't get FIFA. I'm not a fan of sports games but any soccer game that attempts to be realistic is just awful. Stuff like NFL, NHL and basketball translate well but unless football is arcadey like with sensi or ISS deluxe (which I lament when it turned into pro evo) it just doesn't work as a game.

I should have preached to them the virtues of super metroid.

Or the quality that is Super Mario Kart.

....I think you'd lose them on Final Fantasy 6 though. There's an element of society that will never appreciate the quality of an excellent engine combined with great story telling.

I can't seem to find a mini anywhere. Sigh.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,843 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I wouldn't call the ff6 engine quality. It's incredibly buggy and broken. Sure you use sketch at your own risk as it can totally break your game!

    Still pure quality though.

Only football game for me was Sensible Soccer on the Amiga. Put so many hours into that game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

FIFA has had some good iterations down the gears, FIFA Road to the World Cup is probably my favourite football game ever. The problem with a lot of the modern ones is a lot of the tech hasn't taken big enough jumps to distinguish it from a previous version, like it used to do often throughout the 90's and 2000's.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,790 ✭✭✭Jack burton

Yeah I don't like FIFA but sure whatever floats your boat, I hate soccer in general. WWF games are the same but I was a big fan back in my youth so I understand the yearly updates.

Emulation in super ghouls n ghosts is shocking, I haven’t played the original in years but can’t believe it was this slow and laggy

Lol its not an emulation issue. If it was you would get frame tearing. Slowdown is coded in to the game. The snes had a shockingly awful cpu which was crap for action games. Gradius 3 is a good example. Take it from a gng expert, the lag was in the original game.

If anyone knows where I can get one or if you selling a second snes mini can you pm please :)

There's some pretty good old wrestling games. Fire pro and the better n64 games were great. It's just the modern ones are utter crap.

Really? it’s almost unplayable, I had it bitd (US Cart) and don’t remember it being that bad, I thought it was quite good, it’s real jerky as well as the slow down

Once you get a handful of sprites on the screen it plays its sooooo slow, you actually fall when you die in slow motion lol
Doesn’t look like that on the AVGN videos which are original hardware
I play a lot of gng and ghouls but only really on arcade, maybe I’m spoiled

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,790 ✭✭✭Jack burton

Won't get a chance to fire it up tonight. I'll wait till after work tomorrow and beat the crap out of the girlfriend on SSF2

The controller cables are a bit naff, really thought they would have went wireless

It's plagued with slowdown on SNES. The arcade game is a different game and also uses a juicier 68000 processor like the megadrive.
