Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Does anyone know if timing has a big impact on final score - say 2 people answer all questions right but one person is faster - will they score higher?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,426 ✭✭✭italodisco

For me the verbal was easy, felt very confident.

Then the error checking part just took me by surprise of of 8 questions in each part I averaged 6 to 7 answers.

    Tough indeed.

I was a grade 3 for 4 yrs and left the HSE for the civil service, a much better working environment...

In saying that, if I got offered a grade 4 I'd take it

Best of luck to anyone getting ready to do the test and remember, just because I found the error checking hard doesn't mean you will

Just completed the assessment. Found it tough as you need to be so fast or it times you out, but similar to the clerical officer one. So hopefully a good result fingers crossed

Also just because someone gets everything answered it doesn't mean they answered correctly.

Would have preferred maths though lol

Just finished now myself. Both of them went well - am confident I answered most of them correctly, but the time flew by! It's very frantic! A poster above asked whether timing will come into play - so if two people got the same amount of questions done, but one did it quicker, the quicker person will be placed higher on the list. That's probably where I'll fall down as I answered them all, but the timing was off. Ah well!

Best of luck to everyone else. Don't leave it to the last minute tomorrow.

ooops i had a like 30 seconds left for some of the parts and let the time run down to give myself a little break... silly

I'm not sure if it's an established fact, or just speculation about the time factor - I would have thought it would have been mentioned in the information sent out..

When you submitted an answer early, it asked 'are you sure? time remaining'

Messed up during the error checking section, was caught up trying to work through it fast, my mouse hit something and next thing i got the message saying responses loaded. Just wondering how many sections of 8 questions was there?

  • Registered Users Posts: 172 ✭✭trafficlight

Done.. so hard to know though. didn't answer any of the error checking fully. got around 7 out of 8 answered in each. The verbal just seemed to go very quick. hard to know if answered correct. let the waiting begin again...

I'm now a Grade 3 with the HSE , but was with the Civil Service for 3 years, didn't get flexi time in the section I was in in the Civil Service and less holidays. Find my work environment way better in the HSE with 26 days AL and 12 flexi - I guess it really depends on what section you are assigned to. A friend of mine in the HSE doesn't get any flexi time and is continuously under pressure with a massive work load !

Anyways will be interesting to see how many positions will be available as there was an internal competition for grade IV as well....

Really... Have they been many placed as a result of the internal competition or is it still ongoing?

No it only finished a few weeks before this one came on - I wasn't eligible to apply for it so had to apply externally but quite a few long timers grade 3's in my office did apply- they haven't been called for interview yet though ....

Yeah defo, not an established fact. That's usually how they work but yes they should have made that clear in the information sent to us.

How come you weren't able to apply internally...seems odd if you've been there for some time. You would think that they would prefer people like you who have knowledge of the system as you already work there.

I haven't been working long enough with the HSE to apply and all sections are different and have different functions and roles- it is like Revenue, you could have been working in Debt Management in one office and only be trained in that and then transfer out and be working in paye only and would have to be retrained again.

HSE ran a Grade III competition last year for specific purpose contracts which is what I am on now, but have still applied for the new Grade III and Grade IV as well.

Oh that's a shame, is your role in a hospital?

I remember that campaign as I was annoyed that I missed it, but glad to be on the right track for the permanent campaign which would be great if something comes out of it. Fingers crossed for all of us. Thanks for the info.

Agh I didn't get a chance to do the assessment over the weekend so had to do it this morning in work on some downtime. Got called away from my desk by management for a brief question while doing the verbal and missed a whole section. Really hoping it doesn't affect my score too badly!
Starting a grade 3 civil service position in September but want to keep my options open with this panel as well.

The internal competition is running at the same time as this competition. It is limited to people currently in a temporary appointment as a Grade 4. 20 percent of positions are to be filled from the internal panel and 80 percent from this panel.
The internal applicants have submitted competency based applications that will be evaluated in September to see who goes to the next stage of interviews.

86th percentile. Happy enough with that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,071 ✭✭✭julyjane

    144 95th %ile woo hoo!

Now I just need a job to come up in my area, what are the chances?

  • Registered Users Posts: 831 ✭✭✭rsl1976

Bit disappointed. Got 78th percentile. Hopefully I get something with that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 84 ✭✭teaontap

128, 76th percentile. Disappointed but I was expecting a low score after being called away during the test! Do they ever break it down by area at all or is that the only ranking we will get until after interview?

  • Registered Users Posts: 184 ✭✭Jellytots82

131 81st percentile. Bit disappointed as felt I did very well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,531 ✭✭✭kildareash

    95th percentile too! Delighted!

Of course it doesn't mean anything, if there are no jobs in your area.

can you change your area or add areas to your application?

  • Registered Users Posts: 64 ✭✭tweniebaby

92nd percentile, absolutely delighted!! Thought I hadn't done as well as the clerical assessment

  • Registered Users Posts: 85 ✭✭vinegarhill98

I wouldnt even say what percentile i received. Absolutley dumbfounded how it was even possible to do as bad as I have. Walked away from the test feeling like it was a walk in the park. I would love to see my answers again. Totally confused.
But well done to all that got on well!

  • Registered Users Posts: 140 ✭✭crossbeauty

88th, 136 score. not much in the percentiles looking at the scores on here.

will that be good enough to move to next stage???

over what percentile are they moving to stage 2.

so hard to know with this things. sometimes i think i have more chance of winning the lotto than getting
    a new job

  • Registered Users Posts: 40 Maggieclerical

    Hi all,
New to boards forum, just received results for assistant staff officer too got 120 58th percentile, I don't think its too bad, I may not get called first time around, but I was reading the threads and 144 - 95th percentile ,mine 120 was 58th, not to much of a difference in the points but there is in the percentages. So my question is overall ((roughly)how many people went for these tests? And what areas did they select? I selected Tipperary and Limerick. And I'm not too sure it makes a difference, I am a Temporary Clerical Officer at the moment, and I scored 12th over all for county Tipperary, and a few people who scored lower than me started jobs before I did. So my does it make a difference after round one once you passed?
    Thanks Maggie

  • Registered Users Posts: 140 ✭✭crossbeauty

i think about 10,000 applied for this. don't know much more than that. good luck

oh, well if it was 10,000 guess I wont get called then...... ah well I will practice for the next one! Thanks Good luck to all too.

126 - 71 percentile here - not sure if its enough to be called ...

  • Registered Users Posts: 118 ✭✭dorbrogra

Scored 119 - which gives me only 56 percentile I did much better with the clerical officer one. Seems strange how they work out the percentiles and someone here got 144 which gave them 95 percentile. Thought I'd done much better, but I guess it all depends how many jobs are available in a particular location and how many applied to that area. As far as I know this score is for the entire cohort of people who applied and not based on the area of choice. Best of luck everyone who scored high... let us know if ye are called to the next stage.

Ya think it's entire cohort that's what it says on my results email anyways
