Class D PRSI, can you claim illness benefit?

    A friend has a public sector job. they unfortunately have suffered a few injuries over the last few years and payroll are now not paying them. Something to do with combined sick leave taken.

    Would they be entitled to a claim for a social welfare payment since income has ceased. There PRSI class is D.

    No.
    They might have an Income Continuance Plan if they're in a union.
    The number of sick days allowed is around 90ish over 4 years. Those days include Saturdays and Sundays too. And if a person works part-time (for example 0.5) one day of sick leave is doubled to 2 days counted so 90 days can be reached very easily.

    They might qualify for SWA as a last resort if they have very little income.

    thanks, her husband works. maybe no harm to make an enquiry. Any allowance I would imagine will be means tested.
