It's been suggested that the forum lacks a place where users can post details of any upcoming events that may be of interest, as well as general announcements. It seems like a good point, so this is the place for such posts which aren't intended to generate general discussion. It shouldn't be an issue here in the Christianity forum, but standard Boards rules against shilling apply. Thanks!

It's that time of year when parish fetes / bazaars are held around the country, but if anyone is in the south Dublin area this coming Saturday and is at a loose end for something to do with the family, Irish Quaker Faith in Action (IQFA) is holding their annual Christmas bazaar from 12 noon until 3pm at Rathfarnham Meeting House on Crannagh Rd with the usual food, stalls, and childrens entertainment. IQFA support a number of very worthy causes such as Cork Penny Dinners, food relief and agricultural training in Zimbabwe, water purification in Kenya, and a number of other projects. More details are here.

The Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice will launch its most recent publication "Re-Imagining Imprisonment in Europe: Effects, Failures and the Future" at 7pm on June 5th in City Hall, Dublin. The book will be launched by Fr Greg Boyle, SJ, who has worked as a chaplain in Folsom prison and has been active in working with gang members in California. It should be interesting for anyone interested in issues relating to justice and rehabilitation.

An exciting new venture for the churches in Dublin: an ecumenical week of the Bible. The proposal itself is a continuation of the very fruitful collaboration which marked the International Eucharistic Conference in 2012.

Events take place from June 8th - 14th and cover a wide range of topics. Events are only in the Greater Dublin area but may be of interest to some.

In 2014, an Ecumenical Bible Week was held in the Dublin area, running from Pentecost Sunday to Trinity Sunday. The experiment was deemed successful enough to encourage the organisers to learn from that experience and to propose a second EBW in 2015.
This time, the overall topic is “What is the Spirit saying to the Churches?”
The shape of the Bible Week includes a series of presentations offered in a range of venues, aimed at the interested ordinary believer or enquirer. Some of these are offered more than once in different locations. Some are once-off. The general area is the Bible, naturally enough, but looked at from different perspectives: film, music, ethics, law and so forth, as well as more obvious approaches such as prayer (lectio divina) or how to open Bible or organise a Bible Study group.

The fourth Rubicon gathering takes place at Rathmines on 14 November.

I'm hesitant to blow my own trumpet (being one of the minor speakers at the event) but there should be some interesting discussions with such diverse speakers as Peter McVerry, David Norris, Breda O'Brien and Gladys Ganiel.

The factual information helpline is welcome, given the scarcity of them, and the huge amount of unknowns as of yet. Also the fact that it is still going on the HSE today (Grace), and the great silence regarding one four Irish kids are still experiencing sexual abuse in the here an now. It's not just Catholics that are affected.
