Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    I thought this too

Spear, you seem to know something about why I'm not able to see any more than the "cog". Care to elaborate......?
    TIA

I have to congratulate RTE on this, superb job.

RTE have managed to avoid all the mistakes that the BBC made with their iPlayer.

RTE use flash, so it works on a wide variety of OS's, including Macs, Linux, Solaris, I even got it working on my PS3!!

It actually looked well, fullscreen on my 50" plasma through the PS3, great job.

Also no need to register or log in and a very nice, professional, clean and easy to navigate interface. Brilliant job RTE, pints on me if I meet any of you guys around Dublin.

The only thing I would like to see from RTE now is to make their radio streams iPhone/iTunes compatible (basically plain MP3 streams rather then crappy Realplayer streams).

Also is the Fullscreen function working you the rest of you? It's not working for me, just getting a still image. Tried in both IE and Firefox.

I sorted this. It wasn't RTE as YouTube started doing it too...
In case anyone else has the same problem: Right click in the RTE Player for the flash settings, and unselect "Enable hardware acceleration".

That's great that it work's on PS3! Anyone try via the Wii yet?

RTE's next job is to link the programs mentioned throughout their website to the Player, they're still linking to the Real Player files....

I don't have any particular knowledge of this aspect, it should just be a redirect.

My player is still showing as Beta, should it be?

It's still in beta, just open to the public, much like most Google services are beta for years after release.

    Received this from RTE:

    Dear Michael,

Thanks for contacting RTÉ player with your query.

If you can view programmes from The Den, Den Tots, TTV category or the Live News stream the problem may be related to ad blocking software.

There is also a known bug related to this problem within the beta version of the RTÉ player.

We hope to have this resolved soon.

    Regards,

    The RTÉ player Team
    www.rte.ie/player

So maybe it's not only me . I'll just have to give them a chance to fix it.

    mickzer.

Unfortunately flash doesn't work well with most phone web browsers which would be nice.

Do they keep everything up for ever or is it only available for a few days after release. Hopefully the former as it would be great for catching up on older episodes of shows.

Just found this today - VERY impressed! Well done RTE! ;)

Would like to see a HQ or HD option (like youtube) for people with faster broadband.

    THIS ^^

I'd also like to see the full catalogue of shows that was previously available through the realplayer to be available through this. There used to be at least 10 episodes of the Panel available. It would be great to be able to watch them through the RTE Player.

Actually, I am able to access the Player using my 3 IRL midband modem here in Belfast. Works very well. Didn't used to work for the older content available on the website prior to the advent of the player.

Will take the SIM out, stick it in an N95 and create a wifi hotspot and try it with my PS3.

I forgot the Wii supports flash, I just tried it out on my Wii and unfortunately it doesn't work. It seems the RTE player needs a newer version of flash, pity.

I don't know how the likes of BT will be able to deal with this. Seeing as a few hundred heavy users could put their network under pressure, I can't see how they will manage if the people that only use 1 gb a month start to use this.

Credit where credit is due, I have to say that this is a nice piece of kit by RTÉ with great potential. The picture quality is good and Full screen was watchable on my Laptop.

The fact that it allows a 21 day catch-up service is really good. It will be much better if / when they allow access to all of their programs (including more of the American Dramas, etc.)

I'll watch this one with interest...

The problem with accessing RTÉ Player in Northern Ireland is that residential BT Broadband customers have a variable IP address that changes every time you turn on and off the modem. This variable IP address incorrectly states that users in Northern Ireland are from England or Scotland. If you go to http://whatismyipaddress.com/ this will tell you what region it is incorrectly claiming you are from. Due to this fact the RTÉ servers are being told you are not in Northern Ireland and you are not granted access.

The only way to get this changed is for customers to make official complaints to BT to get this changed. If you contact them they will originally tell you that it is not their problem despite the fact that it quite obviously is, however you can then ask to register a complaint. If enough people do this they will have to take action and make an arrangement with RTÉ to allow NI residents to access the RTÉ content.

Are you trying to skip ahead in the video before it loads completely, or does the entire video play the second time?

Must say , i am loving it ...

Has to be a good thing when I can open up my PS3 browser (on main TV) and go to rte.ie/player and watch a program that i missed .

Happy days , who needs SKY+ :DQ

Is the wrong answer.......If RTÉ allowed northern ireland to get in, they would have to allow the whole of the uk aswell.

SO -I was right all along: THIS has now appeared on the Player site:

We're sorry but RTÉ player is currently only available to viewers in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

    and this.....

If you are located in ROI or NI and cannot access the service, please see here.

Which is the only possible logic when RTÉ is already available on various platforms in the north.

Anyway.....YIPPEE, goodbye SKY in the morning.

Gosh and I'm not, here in Belfast.

Trying desperately to get TalkTalk UK to understand that they can sort this for me. However, they want to know if I am wirebound or wireless, XP or Vista (to which I took grave offence) or indeed am facing east or west. This one will run and run.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,213 ✭✭✭culabula

I haven't looked at this for a while now (and not heard a peep out of TalkTalk either) so you can imagine my surprise tonight when I discovered that the RTÉ Player *IS* now working on my Mac here in Belfast, connected to TalkTalk. Don't know who to thank -whether TalkTalk finally sorted it or whether RTÉ themselves intervened on foot of my email to them and their private call to me.

Anyway-happy days. Going to try it on my PS3 now.

Also working on PS3 here in Belfast. Can't negotiate it with BT remote but can just about with Sixaxis. Working very well -at long last. Wish I could get rid of cursor in middle of the screen though.

Those in Northern Ireland must now be able to see both BBC iPlayer content and RTE Player content.
    Nice for you guys! :)

We can, but it looks to me as though the RTÉ Player is now available everywhere and appears devoid of international content. Not much to watch anymore.

    The iPlayer has actual content........

As I did not access the RTE site previously I don't know what is now missing that was there previously.
I see such things as Desp. H/Wifes, E/enders, TopGear .... these are not native content .... maybe you could give me an idea of what is now missing? Thanks.

Well, everything has now disappeared except for Tubridy, the Late late, TAS, other RTÉ shows and endless news bulletins.

Have they a two-tiered version now with one for ROI and one for ROW?

OK, I can now see just about everything both with my datamodem and my home broadband.......except Rearenders! Grey's Anatomy, Housewives etc., they're all there but not The Gripping Adventures of Phiw Mitchell.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,213 ✭✭✭culabula

Sorry scratch that, some of what I could see was apparently just left over from my session with the 3IRL datamodem. So:

using 3 Irl datamodem roaming: can see everything (NO Rearenders) as though I were in Dublin.

Using TalkTalk UK: all but domestic productions disappear.

Yes, confirmed not working in Spain but equally confirmed to be working, with Irish content only in both the north and the UK (at least for TalkTalk customers).

Personally I think it is a reasonable comprise for RTE to have two different versions.

The Irish version that has everything including foreign content.
An international version that carries only Irish content for ex-pats.

Hope the international version is made available to everyone, not just people in the UK.

I agree totally -it's just that I would have expected an announcement of sorts from RTÉ.

It isn't working outside Ireland and Britain and I am not even clear that anyone except TalkTalk customers (owing to my intervention) are accessing this on the island of Britain.

    Just mailed this to onlinetechs@rte.ie

    Hello,
When will you have an RTE International Player up and running?

RTE International TV was put on hold so the least that can be done is an RTE International Player, think of all that had to leave Eire and all that will now leave, please give us something from the Ole Sod.

Please forward this to someone with a bit of clout.

    Thank you very much.
