Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Surprised this didn't get a thread. Midlands does tend to get ignored here a lot. If WW3 got declared there, there'd be a moratorium.

Anyway..... did anyone pass by them on the street up there. Is it that bad at the moment?

Ciarán Mullooly on tonight's 9pm news subtly noted in passing that many travellers were caught up in it. That can't be too good for tourism in Longford, what with CenterParcs and all ...

Lock them all in new Center Parcs Resort nearby in a Battle Royale event and televise it to the nation.

The trouble is in Longford Town. Most of the bad people don't live near Ballymahon.

Hopefully this trip to Longford will have stronger targets than an ERU trip to Longford some years ago.

hehe. Funny you should say that as I distinctly recall a woman from Ballynacargy telling me years ago, with a big sneering Westmeath laugh, that "Ballymahon is full of knackers; it's like Navan, Drogheda and Darndale all in one."

Are many foreign tourists expected at Center Parcs Longford?

Why would foreign tourists go 30km out of their way to travel through Longford?

Does the presence or Armed Response units have a significant effect on Dublin tourism?

Yeah was shocked to hear it on the news yesterday, when they actually said "travelling gangs".

For several months the media has been pussy-footing around this and just calling them 'gangs'.

Wonder why they grew a set?

Even think I heard one TD call for CAB to go in and investigate!

It's about time, something like this happened. The family feud has been going on here for generations. It's only in recent weeks that it has gradually gotten worse.

I think what really hit home on it, was one of their houses was shot at, which ironically was close to one of the local Councillors home.

But alas, once caught, they will only get a slap on the wrist, told to behave and let on their merry way...

Yes, its a hate crime by the non-ethnic majority against both parties and they need compensation...and a new 4 bed...with a stables.

These lads have been let run unfettered for over 20 years now, and garda have pretty much turned a blind eye. One of the principles of one of the families concerned has been a major wholesale distribution of drugs for many, many years. Apparently the families are having a bit of a falling out of late, possibly due to the main man getting older and losing his grip of the young guns.

These lads have been living it large in big houses and lavish lifestyles for many years. Only the CAB can hurt them now, but it could have been nipped in the bud back in the 1990s when they were building their power base.

Shame political will and inaction, along with an underresoursed police force not doing their job for many years, has allowed the town to be controlled by scumbags and gangsters. Many decent people with families, that could afford to move to other areas, have left the town altogether and left it to be taken over by low rent housing, and helped create ghettos for migrants, which is storing up more social problems for years to come.
This PR posturing for the cameras ON RTE isn't going to solve anything either, bring in CAB and hit the assets of these gangsters.

I heard reports on the radio say that it was a feud between 5 families? Are they all against each other or are there 2 sides with different families working together on each ?

TBF, given the chance, most migrants want to better themselves, get a steady job, educate their kids and pay their way unlike those in the cultural community.

    I don't disagree.

However, areas of Longford Town have been abandoned, property is owned by absentee landlords, estates are let run down and become derelict or semi derilict, and they are not being policed. It's a perfect environment for crime and antisocial behaviors to thrive.

The migrants if anything are victims in this.

The likes of CAB may not want negative press from the likes of kitty Holland, colette ( no evidence of african gangs in North Dublin) browne or RTE prime time, the racist card can be easily played now since ethnic status was attained

Travellers have a degree of immunity from investigation and of course this further emboldens them, liberals have us where we are today re_ the traveller menace

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,987 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

I don't think CAB would care.

They seem to be very good at investigating, and I am sure they will be able to confiscate cars, money, jewellery etc around Longford and have enough evidence without having to worry about being accused of racism.

Then after Longford they could maybe start on a lot of the halting sites around the country with their 191 top of the range SUVs owned by welfare claimants.

Battlefield tourism is very popular. Think of the thousands that visit Normandy and Flanders every year.
I think there should be great scope for the development of tourism.
Mock drive by shootings, tiger kidnappings etc. The kids will love it

Big difference between a historical battlefield and a very active 'battlefield' . I suppose a glimpse of the culture of our ethnic minoritie's may be interesting once the eye of a combatant is not caught.

No they are too cute to say it themselves.

They are quoting a Garda Superintendent. The gardai are known for being not quite as PC as everyone else. They often called a spade a spade, rather than a manual soil moving implement.

May or may not be related to this feud but sounds like a house in the town has been fire bombed. Breaking glass and a small explosion were heard and the entire house has gone up in flames apparently.
