Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It’s really wild here in south carlow. Must be the squall line?

rain just starting now in cork city and gusts have picked up too it seems.,

I'm surprised Met Eireann aren't saying much about rainfall....40mm is high by any standard but with fields waterlogged it equals significant flooding for me.
I'd say the dam in Cork will be at breaking point by tomorrow night

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,039 ✭✭✭redsteveireland

Strong enough in East Galway, damn gate is rattling away. Had to hold onto one of the kids earlier when we got caught by a gust going to the car, thought she was going to be blown over.

There's a yellow warning for rainfall?

Tis lovely and mild. Some amount of water though. Saw fair bit of road flooding in the usual spots on drive to Oughterard.

No rain but that wind is something else. Vicious guts and a relentless howling.

It is leaving Deirdre in the shade.

All pretty unremarkable in Galway. Bit breezy, bit damp, and that's about it.

Because the consensus of MÉ's go-to models didn't forecast gusts in excess of 110km/h, mean winds in excess of 65km/h or rainfall of more than 50mm in 24hrs; like it did in advance of Deirdre.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,221 ✭✭✭pad199207

Very windy in N Kildare but nothing like that 30 mins or so bout of severe gusts we had with Deirdre on Sat Eve.

Looking at the maps are we in for worse wind gusts later as the gusts are bad in Cork at the moment?

Yeah would think so, in the early hours . Very strong S'ly veering SW later. Gusting up around 100 km/h on the coasts, maybe a bit more, about 80 km/h or so inland.

    Wild in limerick too

There is a whole swathe of country covering large parts of Cork, Limerick and Tipperary which have no official weather stations to record actual wind speeds etc. Therefore if it doesnt officially happen - there is no storm ;)

If you look at the radar loop the worst of the rain stayed west of a line near Galway city.

Picked up a fair bit here in South Wicklow. Rain coming down hard and strong enough gusts blowing through. Is this expected to last all night? My road was flooded on Saturday and I'd say it would take little enough to bring the levels back up tomorrow. Thankfully the house is well elevated but that won't help me get to work tomorrow!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,827 ✭✭✭madmaggie

It sounds a bit wild out there now. I live in a hollow, so it must be worse up on higher ground. In south Carlow.

92m asl near Riverstick Co Cork.

Just woken by winds! Quite rough.

No way of measuring wind speed

Met.ie last update for cork airport was 2200h.

Blowing heavy here in East Cork. The gusts feel much worse than the last official storm yet it's only yellow.

Some serious gusts here the last few hours. I almost got blown over while going outside for firewood earlier.

31.4mm of rain in Castlebar since midnight, it will be interesting to see the final total in the morning.

No increase on the max gust of 87 km/hr, pressure down to 989.05 hPa.

I'd say the dam in Cork will be at breaking point by tomorrow night

You can see the hydrometric information here for the two Lee dams:

    https://www.esb.ie/our-businesses/generation-energy-trading-new/hydrometric-information/river-lee

It looks like they're keeping the flow high to keep the levels down.

The pattern would be maximum safe outflow when the tide is low and manage it for high tide.
