As a first gravel bike, to be used the odd time when I don't want to go roading, or want to hit the coillte trails etc...

Anyone got a Space Chicken, or have thoughts on better options ? All I want is

    - light
    - strong
    - cheap
    - disks
    - fat tyres (35mm min)
    - drop bars
    - ideally 105 gears, but can live with lesser...

While the Mason Bokeh bikes are v. pretty, they are >2x the PX machine...

A friend of mine has one, dos some road and gravel / forest tracks with all yesr round and no issues.
I have seen some of the trails he takes and they are rough and never had issues.

i want one, but i'd go for the Sram 1x option

and will i need / how much is / and what is a dropper seatpost ??

would an Alu frame be better for the rough stuff ?

Indeed - his sister said 'cheap, waterproof, breathable - you get to pick two'; though it wasn't about bikes. I amn't suggesting my requirements are reasonable....

    Something like that?

Tubeless ready and maybe a screw on bb given its an alloy frame (but I'm not sure). Decent enough kit on bike and other than tape, valves and sealant ready to ride.

@devonp where did you see a gravel bike with dropper post? Usually fitted to mtbs to allow an efficient climbing sitting position(in high position) and down low out of way when descending.

    @ford2600

the PlanetX Space Chicken site list the specs incl "Stealth Dropper routeing"

so its just a possibility i guess for down the road...

I'd love to have been at the table when some marketing cretin suggested that as a name for a bike.

    Sweet mother of Jesus.
