temperatures in Bangkok fell about ten degrees below their normal 28-30 C at this time of year, and from this map it is about 12-13 C in Hanoi where normal is about 24 C.

JAPAN EARTHQUAKE SHOCK RECORDED IN DONEGAL
March 17, 2011

THE SHEER size of the Japanese earthquake – the world’s biggest ever recorded – certainly hit home in Donegal….three local schools recorded it on special equipment.

Pupils at Magh Ene College in Bundoran, St Egney’s National School in Desertegney Inishowen and St Columba’s College in Stranorlar all recorded aftershocks on specialist equipment.

They are using the technology as part of a Seismology in Scools Project run by the Dublin Institute of Advanced Studies and LYIT.

“It took about ten minutes for the shockwave to travel here,” said Dr Tom Blake of the Irish National Seismic Network.

“It arrived on our shores around 6am local time and it was so strong it continued to oscillate on our monitoring equipment. It recorded the actual shockwave of the Japan earthquake passing through Donegal.”

The equipment recorded actual small earthquakes in Donegal in January last year.

The eipicentre of the small quake was in Bridgend

At the time a number of people in the Inishowen and Fanad peninsulas reported hearing a loud bang similar to a thunderclap, followed by a tremor.

Some residents in the Desertegney area said it sounded like a rattle of thunder that seemed “to roll along Lough Swilly”. Others, in Kerrykeel and Milford, fled their homes until they realised the tremor posed no threat to their safety.

Effectively there is no radiation worth a dam coming from Fukushima Dai-ichi

There were a few spikes that reached some 1,000mSv whereas the Chernobyl was gushing 10,000mSv and spiking 30,000 ~ 100,000mSv and sustained lethal doses for weeks.

Yep the radiation readings at the moment are just from the released steam as far as I know, its got a very short half life so poses no real risk. As long as the reactor shells dont get damaged then everything will eventually be fine.

Latest news is that theyre getting the generators back online so should be able to cool the rods properly again. Great news if it all works out

Well at one point an expert did say on the news that the radiation was harmful , 15 minutes of exposure would enhance the chance of getting cancer later in life. I certainly wouldn't want to be in Japan right now.

Japan that has not managed to recover after the first blow of natural disasters ( earthquakes and tsunamis) is risking to be overtaken by a new misery resulting from these disasters. Japanese Seismic Service has reported of a threat of its symbol, Fujiyama volcano’s eruption. The reasons for these assessments are recent 5-6 magnitude earthquakes on the volcano. The last time the volcano erupted was in 1707 when a new crater appeared on it and Tokyo streets ( named do at the time) were covered with 15 sm ash. Eruption of the national symbol will completely " smash" Japan which has just 2 days to stave off nuclear explosion at APS Fukushima affected by tsunami. So far Japanese Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) has increased the danger degree at wrecking Automatic power station Fukushima -1 till the 5th level out of 7 possible ones. International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA) already considers wreckage at Japanese APS Fukushima-Daiichi the most serious one since Chernobyl catastrophe of 1986. Japanese government has already asked the USA for technical assistance to push aside wreckage on APS built under General Electric technology. At present it has been officially affirmed that another 6.200 people have become victims of Japanese earthquake on 11 March. Nearly 10.200 people are considered missing

@gbee and Harps I'm not sure of the amount of contamination but when somebody says to me that there is no reason to be concerned, then I'm sceptical.

All tsunami warnings lifted now. Reports of fires and power outages but there doesnt seem to be any major incidents.

Ive tried to put it in perspective, you know, imagining the ground shaking every so often, my nerves would be shot to pieces. never really know whats coming next.

I know and yet they stay so calm and collected,and just get on with it.I am sure inside though as afraid as you or i would be.
