    Care for another game?

    Quite the amateur move there.

Indeed, what tbh said. To the uninitiated, Mornington Crescent could be said, as its obvious Goodge Street is on the Northern Line, I was prepared to see if anyone would take the bait, thinking I was in knip, but as it was a transversal cross-section, so it was impossible to call it.

Kilburn was a brilliant call, so then, it should be .....

    Westbourne Park.

Well, you obviously haven't played the stealth variation of hugo’s 2nd stratagem have you sir? It superseeds all other rules by decree of the office of the Prince of Wales. Read your history in future

I'm going to go for Westbourne park to counter to your Westbourne Park
    God be with tobermory’s stratagem

Any decree from the Prince of Wales' office has been null and void since the "back passage" repeal. If you are who you claim you are, I'm sure you'd have coped that on.

In any event, we are at Bond Steet, so that means....

let's not drag up that whole "back passage"issue again. I'm sure it was an honest mistake.

Just looking through the radio listings over Christmas, here is a fix of ISIHAC when helping Samantha grease the turkey.

    COMEDY: Humph in Wonderland
On: BBC Radio Four Long wave
Date: Tuesday 25th December 2007 (starting in 11 days)
Time: 12:04 pm to 12:57 pm (53 minutes long)

The team from I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue present their own unique take on Lewis Carroll's most famous work, casting their reluctant chairman Humphrey Lyttelton in the title role. Featuring Tony Hawks, Sandi Toksvig, Tim Brooke- Taylor, Graeme Garden, Barry Cryer, Andy Hamilton, Rob Brydon, Jeremy Hardy, Jack Dee and Colin Sell on the piano.

Sadly the series is over (apart from two specials) and no Mornington Crescent. Still it was good to hear the return of "Hamish and Dougal" for a few mins.

Humph is in hospital, new series which is due next month is canceled. :(

    I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue cancelled

    * Monday April 21 2008

The spring series of BBC Radio 4's comedy show I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue has been cancelled after long-serving presenter Humphrey Lyttelton was admitted to hospital.

Lyttelton, who has presented the "self-styled antidote to panel games" since 1972, is to undergo surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm.

An email from the show's producer, Jon Naismith, to fans said the 86-year-old star was "otherwise fine and in good spirits".

Naismith added that fans could email their get-well messages for Lyttelton through the show's website.

A spokeswoman for the BBC said they had no further details at this stage but believed the operation was due to take place this week.

A live tour of I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue, which is separate to the BBC recordings for Radio 4, will continue with Rob Brydon standing in for Lyttelton.

Lyttelton's eight-piece jazz band featured on a Radiohead track in 2000 and still tours regularly, though the current tour has now been canceled.

Any surgery is a risk, esp at Humphs age. Here's hoping.

It's one of my life's ambitions to get to see one of their live recordings.

It would be really thoughtless of Humph to go and die now, the git.

I can see that from the large sack of mail that has arrived, that they've mixed up the mailbags with You and Yours.

We have a letter from a Mrs. Trellis of North Wales... it says...
    I bring news of the long-awaited return of 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue',
back for its 51st series following the death of our beloved chairman
    Humphrey Lyttelton last year.

We will probably need to start looking for a permanent replacement for Humph
at some stage in the future, but for this series at least, and probably for
the next, we will simply be asking past panellists from the wider 'I'm Sorry
I Haven't A Clue' family to deputise in the role.

ISIHAC stalwarts Stephen Fry, Jack Dee and Rob Brydon have all agreed to
host the shows in this series.

Recordings will take place in April, May and June, for transmission at a future date.

I've seen lot of publicity about Jack Dee hosting, I'm not sure I approve. I'm willing to reserve judgement for the moment. I think one of the nicest things about humph was that he was so self-effacing. Among other things, it gave him the ability to ridicule the performers and their efforts without ever sounding nasty or arrogant. I'm not sure Jack Dee could pull off the same trick. The problem is that the presenter really has to be universally respected - national treasure status - to get away with it.

What think ye of giving Barry Cryer a shot in the chair? It'd be interesting to see how he'd cope, I think if he could tone down the guffaw he could be good. He's a real gag man tho, it'd be a shame to lose him from the panel.

Agree, tbh. Jack Dee, whilst his delivery is dead pan, it ain't as innocent as Humph.

But really, are we looking for someone to be themselves rather than look for Humph mk. 2?

Thats why I'd have given Rob Brydon the job, the baggage with the other two is not there with him.

I wrote on the GU blogs about this. (posh, me!) I think we are all in danger of trying to replace Humph rather than take the presenters at face value and see what they bring. Who knows itcould be a whole new lease of life.

My fear would be that they'll guest the seat out...a la Have I Got News...
I wouldn't be a fan for Dee as host and I thought a smelled something in the air a few week back when he joined in on Merton's team (very little input).

Oddly I'd plump for Mark Lamar. He has the experience of handling a panel format and has a very good radio demeanor. Very different than his tv persona.

That'll see you in Nid, Sir.

Humph was a one off, as you said, t'would be madness to try to find a replacement just on their Humph-ness, if that makes sense.

Dee would be a great choice, but I couldn't see him pulling-off (pun intended) the Samantha and Lionel Blair gags.

Stephen Fry would be my ultimate choice with Julian Clary in close second.

The last edition of the current series is still online - very funny and marking the 40 anniversary of the series! Incredible to think that three of the four panelists have been on ISIHAC for at least 38 of the those years (Willie Rushton RIP was the last to arrive and the first to leave 1974-1996) .
