Well despite some areas of the country being soaked of recent, our back garden is bone dry and the water butt has been emptied.

Mains Water around here has your standard mix of lime and probably chlorine...

I've nursery plants down that I need to water or they won't make it to summer..

Is a good mains water soak ok the occasional time?

if you want to use mains water, fill the butt and let it stand for a bit.

    +1

Chlorine evaporates after a day or two.

For indoor plants, we always have a small jug of tap water thats been sitting for a few days. This way the chlorine is gone and water is room temp so no shock to the plant. Then just refil from tap and let sit in corner of kitchen until needed later.

Did this... Surprising how long it took the hose to fill the butt. Could only give it 12 hours sitting time before using it though. Have to leave for a few days. Hoping that any water is better than no water.

Grey water (from washing up/showers etc) is perfect too. Used it last year during the drought seemed a Shane to waste it down the drain

    Would soap not cause issues?
