Gronk has been talking retirement since last years SB. Some more talk this week. It’s looking likely.

Tough to tell with Edelman, looked past his best for a lot of the year. Maybe being out all last year, and 4 games this year took longer to come back from, he’s a great game tonight. But he’ll be 33 in a few months, and he’s talking a beaten in his time, so he’s nearer the end.

Brady and Bill, probably another 2 years together I reckon. Brady had a drop off this year compared to last year, but I think that’d more to do with the receivers than Brady. And he gave a masterclass tonight. He might want to play till 45, but surely age hits before that.

You might very well get your wish of a SB visit, but it won’t be the career ender. Brady was pissed that the refs didn’t stop the clock when they were 35:7 up with a FG chance at the end of the first half. He’s as driven as ever.

And that's what worries me heading into this game. The Chiefs have probably their best overall team in my lifetime (30+ years), even without Kareem Hunt, and that fecker is still hanging around and finding a way to get the job done with a mix and match receiver set.

Mahomes is the future of the AFC imo but Brady is still very much the present unfortunately and after destroying the Chargers today they've got great momentum heading to Arrowhead.

The Chiefs D stepped up against the Colts though and only gave up six points so I think a lot will ride on how much pressure Jones, Ford and Houston can put on Brady. He doesn't really like contact these days!

Mahomes is without doubt the future. He’s made ridiculous passes this year. He’s been like Rodgers on steroids.

The Pats today were the Pats all season, at home. They’ve been very different away. I expected the Pats to win today due to the home factor, and expect them to be underdogs next week, as they’ve been fragile without home comforts.

Should be a good contest, but I am worried.

Yeah Rivers didn't have a good time of it all, the Chargers offense stalled down the stretch compared to how well they started the season. I'd much rather have them coming to Arrowhead than the Pats.

The Chiefs D has been very solid at home, it's mainly on the road that they've been dreadful, so fingers crossed for another big showing.

KC are three point favourites according to BetDSI, the first time that Brady has been the underdog since Week 2 2015.

Patriots surprised me last night.. thought the Judases would have put it up to them. Outcoached (esp Whiz) and out-physicalled, totally dominated, an embarassment.

But count me as one of the biggest Chiefs fans ever next weekend. Not a lot would please me more than to see KC do NE.

Patriots are massive underdogs - you're not really going out on a limb there.

I've seen Chiefs as 3-point favs. Pats might like the underdog role in this one for bulletin board stuff, but it's not massive underdog to suggest you just lose by a FG.

If it was a neutral field the Pats would probably be favourites, the Chiefs being +3 is because of Arrowhead.

Homefield advantage is -3 in Vegas, so the sportsbooks are saying these 2 teams are even in neutral ground.

I've nothing against the Chiefs. I've the height of respect for Andy Reid who imo is the second best coach in the league over the last fifteen years.
Mahomes is facing his first true test against an experienced playoff team. He has to show he can do those things against a defense that will be ready for him. He has to show his clutchness in a huge game.
It's going to be a tight game I think and I'm really looking forward to it.
I think it's going to come down to which defense performs the best.

Getting nervous now. Glad to see that Berry is back in the mix, he will at least make Brady and co. think a little bit more about their play selection.

Hopefully the Chiefs can get the job done against the plucky underdog Patriots.

That half couldn't have gone much worse. The defense can't make a tackle stick and, apart from one play, the offense has been dreadful. Mahomes getting sacked out of field goal range summed it all up nicely.

Commiserations guys. Obviously we're delighted in the Pats thread, but as a long time Pats fan, I know what's it's like to crave success.

The only consolation, as mentioned by Xavi6, is that the future is really bright. Mahomes is your QB for a decade+, you'll have plenty of success ahead. Great season, and ye'll be back again.

It was some game, another seesaw battle between the two teams and as much as I dislike the Pats, Brady and Edelman in particular were superb on some of those drives. And yet the game should've ended on a pick, that will haunt Chiefs fans for a long time.

The Pats O line was excellent too, I believe Brady didn't leave the pocket once? Mahomes had a huge second half and Watkins benefitted massively from all the attention Hill received. Damien Williams has been something of a revelation considering where he was pre-Hunt sacking, he's a solid weapon and deserves that contract extension.

The secondary still needs sorting even though Sorensen made a couple of big plays. Ward and Lucas are promising but they need a star back there and I'm not sure it's Eric Berry anymore.

On a side note, Tony Romo was unreal on colour commentary. I normally hate spoilers but listening to him call all those plays before they happened was brilliant, he's the best in the business right now imo.

I wanted to come in and rub a bit of salt in the wounds but couldnt --- Mahomes is a joy to watch and is for real. As a Pats fan I woud have had no complaints if they had lost last night - thought KC were very good second half and I just hoped that the half time lead and the amount of time the Chiefs D were on the field would see them gas late on and so it came to be. I'm not sure of the contract situation with the Chiefs players but if Reid can keep that O and add to their D you have to think they will have their day with Mahomes .... some of his throws are just freakish. Once he sorts out some of his decisions, which will come with experience, he's the top player in the league by a distance.... Would be great to see a Brady/Manning esque rivalry develop with Mayfield over the next few years but that's a big ask with the Browns.

I will add that there is a lot of commentary about the Pats getting calls last night but I thought the Chiefs secondary got away with a lot of PI and late hits. Even on the Edleman turn over, there was a nasty hit on him after after Soreson had gathered the ball ... It's done now, but I hate the blinkered hate towards the Pats on these things.

It's going to be an interesting offseason with 16 players off contract, we may see a fairly high turnover. Hopefully plenty off free agents want to come play with the future of the conference and we pick up some quality on defense.

Not going to pretend that I followed all the Chiefs games and known their scheme in dept. But is the talent there?

What I mean is, there was a lot of one on one match-ups that the Pats won, esp at the line of scrimmage when running the ball, that had little to do with play calling; guys were individually beaten.

Of course it maybe require a new DC (I didn't see all your games); but Dee Ford avoids a basic pen and you are in the SB.

A little from column A and a little from column B. For example, Sutton never blitzed against the Pats to try put some pressure on Brady or force him out of the pocket. The Pats has no fear going after Mahomes at times and they got some joy out of it.

Talent wise, Ford, Jones, Bailey and Houston plus some supporting acts make for a solid front seven, although Ragland and Hitchens were largely disappointing. It’s the secondary that was the major concern without Berry.

The likes of Scandrick and Parker should’ve been nowhere near starting for as long as they were and it took way too long for Lucas and Ward to be given a proper chance to impress. Both were very good down the stretch.

Ultimately Sutton had been there six years I think it was and the defense ranked as one of the worst in the NFL, now’s the time to make a change.

Yeah. And given the cushion that the offense normally gave the D, you tend to expect more.

With a potential $200m contract (that will have implications for the CAP and paying others) on the way for Mahomes in 2020 or 2021, no point waiting to make the change.

And obviously the No Look.

I was there in person, Ravens really put it up to us and were the best team we played this year.

Bit gutted that Houston is gone after eight years. Injuries stopped him from being even better and his refusal to restructure his contract really left the Chiefs no choice. But still

Carlos Hyde is an interesting addition to the RB group, could be good if they're planning to split the workload next year between himself and Williams x2.

The contracts of Watkins and Hitchens cost Houston his job in Kansas. He actually earned his money. Hitchens and Watkins are overpaid - Ford is on his bike, Berry can't be relied upon to stay fit.

He’s getting paid off the back of one great season but even still, I think what we got in return is pretty rubbish. There’s cap space now though at least.

I think we did great getting a second round pick for him, I'd prefer it to be this year but happy out either way.
We were never giving him a long term deal, hes had injuries throughout his career, frees up 15 million in cap for extending hill and jones and we get draft capital that we can use to trade or move up if we see a player we like.

We had arguably the worst defense in the entire NFL last season, so a youth movement should be welcomed by all fans & we should trust that Andy Reid & his cap guru Veach have this under control. I ****ing hope so anyways.

I don't hate the Ford trade, just the compensation. No way we keep that 2020 pick, that's gonna be more ammo for another trade I'd say. Cut him before you pay him. Draft stock, trade up and get Greedy Williams. That defense is gonna be sick..................

We'll now rely on Tanoh Kpassagnon, Breeland Speaks, Frank Zombo and possibly a rookie on the edge, but yep, I have high hopes for Tanoh. He could be the guy. Looked like he was good as a pure rusher, but lacked ability in coverage and instincts to play 3-4 OLB. 4-3 end is much simpler, and they can turn him loose. Zombo will certainly start now at outside linebacker

Been thinking about the Hill situation and the possibility of using him as a Draft Trade to bring in DK Metcalf

There are three problems with Hill:

1. He's going to want a ****ton of money on his next contract

2. He might be in deep **** depending on what's going on with his current legal/domestic issues

3. He's a huge risk of being in future deep **** because he's a complete scumbag with a nasty record

He's undoubtedly talented, but the question is this: who would, in a position to draft Metcalf, decide that they instead want to take on a far more expensive player at the same position who has big red flags? The only advantage that Hill has over Metcalf is that he is proven, but the only team that is likely to be in the market for a proven receiver is one with a veteran locker room that thinks it's ready to win now, and they would need to have a pick in the top ten.

It's not beyond the realm of possibility but my guess is that your market is pretty small, and you'd need to give up your first round pick. I think if I'm the Chiefs I'd rather have Hill plus my first than Metcalf, who I think is far from a lock to be a star anyway. The only reason I'm trading Hill now is if I know that he's got legal trouble coming, and if the Chiefs know that then everyone else does as well.

I really hate when the Chiefs have no first round draft pick, not on the clock now until pick 61.

Clark is a serious player and by all accounts a more complete asset than Ford was but it feels like they gave up a lot.
