Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    COMPLETED

Resident Evil 4 VR (Oculus Quest 2) - Possibly the best 18-19 hours I've had on the Quest 2! Absolutely incredible experience and really fun. It's actually terrifying having an El Gigante bearing down on you in VR! A+++

It's so much fun I might actually do another playthrough with the unlockables you get for beating the game.

    COMPLETED

A Fisherman's Tale (Meta Quest 2) - Nice short puzzler to get through. About 2 hours in total. Interesting mechanic employed where you see yourself as a small model, and gigantic model at the same time (i.e. you are a model too) and you use this to transfer objects to the different versions of yourself.

TRIED BUT NOT BOTHERING WITH AGAIN

Sairento: Untethered (Meta Quest 2) - Controls are overly complicated and the actual game is a not particularly interesting wave-shooter

Sam and Max: This Time It's Virtual! (Meta Quest 2) - I missed out on the whole Sam and Max thing, so the characters aren't ingrained in my head as something like Day of the Tentacle or Monkey Island might be, but the dialog is sorta funny. The actual game is really dull though so I gave up.

    COMPLETED

Quake II (Nintendo Switch) - Yes it's an oldie, and I've probably completed it before, but the new revamped version is outstanding fun with improved AI and visuals and lots of value with the add-on extensions.

You are not saying how many games are on the backlog.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,861 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

I neither have the time nor the ability to count em.. I don't aim to ever complete all games on the backlog (sure look at my Epic games list!)

I have games on around 20 or more different sources and devices.

I just log the games I DO actually complete... mainly for my own sake so that I don't end up replaying them by accident (unless of course they are worth replaying) 😁

At a wild guess... 1,000 games on the backlog?

Are you really a gamer of you don't have 1000+ games in the backlog?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,861 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

I was thinking about it after... I think it might actually be closer to 3,000+ as I have a ton of roms.

The games I prioritise are the ones I actually paid hard cash for, although sometimes I do some short games I "acquired" through other nefarious means just to free up space (like some of those on my Quest3 vr headset)

This thread is more of a motivation to get me to actually finish games rather than part-playing lots of games and never completing any of them.

But usually life gets in the way, hence the 4 month gap between the most recent and the one before 😕

    COMPLETED

Quake II 64 (Nintendo Switch) - My Switch Quake 2 addiction still has me trying out all the expansions, but each expansion is almost like a game in itself so adding em here.

Goddamn that was tough. Unlike the main game, there's a serious shortage of ammo in the N64 version, and it's a completely different game with not one identical level. It's a tad shorter too.

TRIED BUT NOT BOTHERING WITH AGAIN

Budget Cuts (Rift / Meta Quest 3) - Had the Rift version of this for years but never really played it so I tried out the Quest version last night and just found it tedious. Very old-skool VR, and I think it was popular back in the day but looking dated now, when there are epic games like Assassin's Creed or Asgard's Wrath 2 on Quest now.

TRIED BUT NOT BOTHERING WITH AGAIN

Bonelab (Meta Quest 3) - Another one to check off the "won't bother continuing with due to frustrating controls". Don't get what all the hype is over this and Boneworks beyond terribly fiddly physics.

    COMPLETED

Quake II - Call of the Machine (Nintendo Switch) - The new expansion for Quake 2 is HUGE! Took me about 20 hours? It's also incredibly tough, with a lot of "git gud" style gameplay mechanics which are prob aimed at newer players (like unbelievable amounts of overpowered enemies attacking at once)

Great fun and great graphics though.

And this marks my first Century off the backlog!

    COMPLETED

Quake II - The Reckoning and Ground Zero mission packs (Nintendo Switch) - Finally got around to completing the remaining expansions for Quake 2. Each one was huge so considering them 2 full games off the backlog!

Gonna miss this one as the rail gun is so cathartic.

    COMPLETED

Jurassic World Aftermath (Meta Quest 3) - Alien Isolation lite. Some tense and scary areas, though the kills are a bit of a let-down as the screen fades to black when you die, rather than the full gore you got in Alien Isolation. Wasn't a big issue though. Bit linear but enjoyable for what it is.

TRIED BUT NOT BOTHERING WITH AGAIN

A Township Tale (Meta Quest 3) - Went into this blind. Didn't realise it was a MMRPG, and it was only when I heard the gurgling noises of some prepubescent kid playing elsewhere I decided to exit stage left pronto. Gave it 10 minutes anyway, enough time to see it's kinda crap, so another one off the list.

    COMPLETED

Stones of Harlath (Meta Quest 3) - This one really surprised me. It's pixel art, a bit like a Wolfenstein 3D in VR, and atrocious voice acting. But something about the gameplay and in particular the spell casting really hooked me. Only 5 hours long too which is nice for a quick one to get off the backlog.

    COMPLETED

Shadow Point (Meta Quest 3) - Tricky enough puzzler. Looks great with the Quest Games Optimizer. Got it as a freebie with Quest+.

    TRIED BUT NOT BOTHERING AGAIN

Warhammer 40K Battle Sisters (Meta Quest 3) - Got about 90% way through this as, despite a lot of negative reviews from its early days, I thought it was pretty decent. The enemy AI is a bit crap though, but it wasn't terrible. The reason I didn't complete it is that scenarios became unfairly difficult and it was becoming a bit stale with same enemies repeated over and over, but I got enough out of it.

    COMPLETED

Espire 1 VR Operative (Meta Quest 3) - Despite showing its age, this game had me hooked with really immersive environments that you physically climb around. Great way to stretch the back muscles while gaming. AI was a bit weak, but I reckon the sequel is worth investigating. Got it as a freebie with Quest+.

    COMPLETED

The Last Clockwinder (Meta Quest 3) - Freebie with Quest+. This is a short but incredibly addictive game where you create clones that mimic your real world movements for 2-4 seconds and as you create new clones you interact with the previous clone's action (like throwing an object to another clone in the distance in order to solve a puzzle). I completed it in 2 days, but that was playing almost non-stop as I just wanted to see it through as I thought of more inventive ways to finish puzzles more efficiently for extra bonus points. A+++.

    TRIED BUT NOT BOTHERING AGAIN

Wallace & Gromit in The Grand Getaway (Meta Quest 3) - Quest+ freebie, but feeble controls meant this was delete pretty quick. Nice graphics though.

    COMPLETED

I Expect You To Die (Meta Quest 3) - Freebie with Quest+. I've owned this game on Steam for years but never tried it so eventually just decided to complete it on the Quest 3 version. Fun, but showing it's age. It's very short actually with only 7 stages. Figuring out how to complete each one is what takes the time though. Clever puzzles but overall I'm glad it's over.

    TRIED BUT NOT BOTHERING AGAIN

Vacation Simulator (Meta Quest 3) - Quest+ freebie. From the makers of Job Simulator. It's alright, but these kind of games bore me now. Pass.

    COMPLETED

Floor Plan 2 (Meta Quest 3) - Freebie with Quest+. The last of my Quest+ freebies as I'm not renewing it. It's an amazing looking game with console quality cartoony graphics and crystal clear, particularly with the Games Optimizer running. Puzzles and humour are great too, definitely up there with The Last Clockwinder in terms of puzzler enjoyment.
