Hi All. I'm moving to Oz on the WHV in April with my Argentinian girlfriend (I'm Irish). We are planning on completing the 3 months specified work to apply for a 2nd year visa, just to get it out of the way. Anyone have recommendations on anywhere in Northern Australia where we could both work (her in hospitality as her visa allows her to do so, and myself in either construction or farmwork)? I am currently doing some research as I am not too familiar with many areas in Northern Oz...

    Cheers!

Do you mean Northern Territory or the northern parts of Western Australia and Queensland?

I can't help with work but just want to point out that hospitality work doesn't count towards a second year visa regardless of where it's done.

You can do Hospitality on 462 visa

The following industries and regions are approved for specified work:
    • plant and animal cultivation in northern Australia and other specified areas of regional Australia
    • fishing and pearling in northern Australia only
    • tree farming and felling in northern Australia only
    • tourism and hospitality in northern Australia only

Note: Work undertaken in the tourism and hospitality industry must appear in the list of tourism and hospitality occupations, which is based on Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) codes. You guys could work anywhere. Your girlfriend can work in a pub as long as it is in a certain postcode. I guess up North would be a lot of cattle stations and maybe fruit or cotton but I wouldn't know. Look up backpacker jobs or the hostels have work advertised too.

em -just pointing out the current crisis and millions of acres of farms and agricultural businesses burnt, with many families who will be desperately and franticially affected by the byshfire infernos across australia. .Old patterns of seasonal employment and places you used readily get tourism or labouring work may be worth serious research in advance.

Yes I was considering this and have been keeping up to date with everything thats going on including the crisis maps showing areas that are currently affected! It does appear to be mainly in the East, North East and South of the country.

I'm just trying to choose a location in Northern Oz as this is where we are limited to due to her visa. So if anyone has been there or has any recommendations that would be great! I'm currently researching many areas and possibilities of employment. Thanks for the info folks!
