What in the name of Jesus are they doing with the website?

Used to be one of my favourite daily reads, but in the last few months its become a complete clusterf*ck of jumbled crap....

It was always ****e, now it's even more ****.

Looks like the MSN homepage, big ugly image links and ads all over the place.

No doubt they paid some company thousands upon thousands for it.

Despite the fact 50% of the page is ads the ads in the sidebar don't even fit. The headlines and sections look like some web designer came up with the internet equivalent of Homer Simpson's makeup shotgun.

i signed up to their RTE Player site (to try win tickets to the toy show). cant unsign up to the buckets of spam they keep sending me. When i try, it goes to a page that says its not working/unresponsive

The area titles point to this being an intern "shure we're quiet now, have a go" job.

Not Facebook? Dude seems to be getting a bit of milage out of that, as are the tabloids reporting on his Facebook updates.

Yeah it's dreadful. I detest most of these responsive sites. When m.boards goes I'll most likely use the desktop site from my phone.

    1 - Install firefox / Chrome
    2 - Install the "Adblock" plugin/addon
3 - No more ads, anywhere. not even in youtube videos.
    4- You're welcome.

I check it every morning along with breakingnews.ie.

I think it still looks very unfinished and needs more work.

However the content available on the front page is much better and accessible without clicking through to the various sections to find news. And I'll scroll to the bottom to see the "10 most read".

In the last version of the site I'd scan the top 6 inches of the front page and I'd be gone.

The version before that again I thought was great at the time.

Unfortunately that'll only work until they eventually foist the "beta" site onto us (as was tried previously) as "ready"

But I agree.. so much wasted space, oversized text and huge images. Not everyone browses the Internet on a bloody 5" phone!

I just had a look at it for the first time in ages.

Its taken on the style of a click bait website which images everywhere.

This is what gets me about these so-called "responsive" websites, i.e. they actually aren't responsive at all, quite the opposite in fact, they're 100% biassed towards phone / tablet users and while the designers are at it, they dumb the websites down to the absolute lowest common denominator as well.

When I open a website looking for information I expect to see as much as can possibly fit on the main page without being too cluttered, and simple to find, and use, menus to allow me to find everything else ... NOT having to scroll endlessly through hundreds of arty-crafty images that slide and lurch over each other as I scroll, making me feel sea sick.
