Figuring out alarm zoning in house

We have an alarm with a HKC control panel on the wall, identical to this one:

    RF-Remote-Keypad.jpg&ft=.jpg&mh=420&mw=1020

We've recently got a puppy and had a flap installed in the back door to let her in/out as she requires. It just dawned on me that I can no longer set the alarm when we leave her at home as she could trigger it by using the flap. I'd like to be able to figure out how to set it so that the front rooms and the upstairs are set to 'on' and leave the kitchen off, if possible.

It was installed before I moved in with the missus so I wasn't around to take down any instructions regarding setting it or anything like that. Up until now we always just keyed in the code to set / unset the alarm. It was either on for the whole house or off. Herself is certain there was at least some sort of zoning programmed in as there was a separate code for upstairs / downstairs but she never used it.

Is there any quick way to view the zoning or would i need someone to take a look at it? Is there even a way to reset it and programme in my own zones or does that require specialist equipment? I suppose I could try setting different zones and triggering it but that's a PITA.

I take it that your system is made of motion detectors ( PIR's ), they would be little white units wall mounted and probably in a corner of each of your downstairs rooms.

Your current prediciment is the dog and the necessity to inhibit the area into which it goes after entering via the flap.

Can you stand by your keypad and get someone else to keep moving around that area, while you enter in your user code into the keypad?

What should happen is the system should show ' Open Zones " and then display Z .... (.... being the number and description of the zone in that area )

Lets say it reads, Z2 Utilty Room.
So the next time you want to arm the alarm and leave the Utility Room off the system,

Then you enter your code followed by * 2 Yes
