Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Does Islamic extremism no longer pose a threat to Western nations?

    I remember growing up in the noughties and tens. Always heard about an attack around the world being inspired by Al-Qaeda or some Arabic leader being accused of state-sponsored Islamic terrorism. Then ISIS came in 2013 and they seemed to be even worse than AQ.

    But since the last year, I haven't heard of any threats on the news from ISIS or any major attacks. The last one seems to have been Paris in November 2015. America hasn't had any major once since 9/11.

    Will this new decade be one of peace in terms of terrorism?

    A lot of the money dried up. Also ISIS are too busy fighting for the odd street corner or village to be training and sending young men to commit attacks.

    Tensions between Greece and Turkey are also very good. The Borders are being heavily manned, then the Balkan borders are also being tightly controlled for Covid.

    Saying that, all of these boat dwellers sailing into Dover is worrying but also as seen in Dijon, the likes of the Chechens have access to a lot of high powered weapons.

    ISIS lost a lot of ground they had gained as they were pushed back, the US carpet bombed an island in Iraq they were pushed back onto.

    In the last week Greek and Turkish tensions escalated over resources off Greece in disputed waters. It’s been escalated to the EU as the Turks sent in survey ships.

    Islamic extremism continues to pose a global threat.

    ISIS/ISIL/IS/DA'ESH are more focussed on muslim-centric attacks. The Al-Qaeda brand are the ones with ambitions to counter western society and influence. However, ISIL 'inc' have inspired attacks in Europe in the past, while not exactly directing them.
