Big weekend for Irish boxing with Eric Donovan getting his big chance on the Sky cameras tonight and the BT card Saturday featuring Frampton, Conlan and Paddy Donovan.

Would absolutely love Eric Donovan to win tonight and reckon he'll give it a very good go but possibly lose out on the cards.

Yeah, I'm really interested in seeing how Donovan does here. He is 35 after all, but I haven't been overly impressed with Barrett and if Donovan has prepared well, this is a winnable fight.

Agree with Macklins card. Ball for me was throwing plenty but not landing apart from the last two rounds merely because Courtenay was getting tired.
Ball 10-8 and in the first and then swept the last three rounds imo to take it by a point. Close fight though. Felt Macklin ignored a lot of Ball's work.

Pretty sure it's on sky sports mix free to air if you don't have sky sports

    One round each so far.

    Good technical fight this.

Barrett is having good success to the body, Donovan definitely seems to feel them, but he came back beautifully when looking under pressure. All to fight for.

Barrett rocked to his boots there. Donovan 4-1 or 3-2.

Donovan boxing lovely. With power he’d have this lad gone!!!

    Oh no!

    No real defense!!!

Really needed to hold there, but his chin was so high, one more decent punch and he was gone.

    I think Eric is cooked.

Barret knows Eric can not hurt him..

    punchbag. all over

    Nasty!!

    Put up great effort..

Sadly, no power to discourage Barret, and no innate defensive skills and instincts..

he never came back from the knock down in the 6th

FFS, Eddie.. it’s not fooking a prime Roberto Duran you’re talking about..

    Nelson: Granite chin?

Wtf are these lads on? Donovan couldn’t burst a grape...no need for having any type chin here..

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,849 ✭✭✭Morrison J

Was always going to be about whether he could weather the late storm. Barrett just had too much in the end as he started to time him. Great effort from Donovan though in such a big step up. Fair play.

Bit harsh. Eric going up in weight and fighting the bigger guy. Still rocked Barrett early on. Not always all about power.

I never said it was about power..

I was talking about Nelson saying Barret showed a granite chin...

The point in pointless, as Eric is not at all a puncher!!

Think he tired badly even before the knock down. I wouldn't give Barrett enough credit to say he was patient as he took some hits that rattled him. Donovan showed great humility after the fight...hope he stays in Irish boxing circles in some capacity, gentleman.
